Chapter 3 - Dawn of the ExecutionerThe morning sun rose over the snow-covered city, casting a blinding white glare across the floor-to-ceiling windows of Vale International’s penthouse headquarters on the seventieth floor.
I stood holding a cup of black coffee, looking down at the tiny figures of cars crawling far below. The twins were sleeping soundly in a custom bassinet set up in my private executive lounge, tended to by a trusted pediatric nurse I had dispatched at 3:00 AM.
The heavy mahogany double doors swung open without a knock. Marcus walked in, carrying a fresh stack of legal documents and a tablet displaying real-time financial metrics.
“Good morning, Ms. Vale. The board of directors has been briefed on the emergency restructuring of Harrington Luxe. They are fully behind you,” Marcus reported briskly. “Furthermore, Graham and his mother have spent the last three hours trying every single credit card, bank account, and emergency line of credit they possess. Every single one has been declined.”
A faint smile touched my lips. “And the house?”
“Foreclosure notices were formally served by hand delivery at 6:00 AM sharp,” Marcus said, handing me a sleek black tablet. “The sheriffs are currently executing the writ of possession. They have two hours to vacate the premises.”
“Let’s go pay them a visit,” I said, setting my coffee cup down. “I want front-row seats.”
Within twenty minutes, my private convoy of black SUVs pulled up outside Harrington Manor. The contrast between last night and this morning was poetic. The estate was surrounded. Two local sheriff cruisers sat in the circular driveway, their emergency lights flashing silently against the pristine snow.

As my security detail opened my door, I stepped out wearing a tailored white wool trench coat, oversized designer sunglasses hiding my eyes, and my hair swept back in a flawless corporate updo. I didn't look like the exhausted, weeping mother they had shoved into the snow ten hours ago.
I looked like their worst nightmare.
