Chapter 6 - The Lion’s DenThe vehicle stopped outside a high-end private club in the city's meatpacking district. The exterior was non-descript, but the heavily armed men standing outside the heavy oak doors signaled exactly who owned the place.

Julian Vescari’s stronghold.
Lorenzo walked in without waiting for guards to open the doors. Isabella walked beside him, her heart hammering against her ribs, but her expression as calm and unreadable as marble.
The club was dimly lit, smelling of cigars and scotch. Sitting at a leather booth in the back was Julian Vescari—a handsome, arrogant man with Lorenzo’s gray eyes, but lacking his lethal restraint. Beside him, trembling violently and clutching a glass of whiskey, was Daniel Vance.
Daniel looked horrific. His eyes were bloodshot, his suit rumpled, the arrogance from his wedding day completely vaporized.
When Daniel saw Isabella walk in beside Lorenzo, his glass rattled against the table.
"Lorenzo," Julian said smoothly, leaning back and blowing a plume of cigar smoke into the air. "What a pleasant surprise. I didn't expect you to bring your new bride to my establishment."
Lorenzo didn't stop until he was standing right over the table. Marco and three other armed men fanned out behind him, blocking the exits.
"Julian," Lorenzo said softly. "You're sitting in my chair."
Julian’s smile tightened, but he didn't move. "I was just having a chat with Mr. Vance here. It seems you've taken an unhealthy interest in his real estate assets. Assets that my division was planning to acquire next month."
"Your division operates at my discretion," Lorenzo replied coldly. "And Daniel Vance belongs to my wife."
Daniel suddenly stood up, his face flushed red with desperation. "Isabella! Please! You have to stop this! Lorenzo is going to ruin me! He’s going to take everything!"
Isabella looked at Daniel, feeling a strange, profound sense of detachment. She looked at the man she had spent six years of her life with, the man she had sacrificed her career for, and realized she felt nothing. No love, no pity—only a cold, absolute clarity.
"You ruined yourself, Daniel," Isabella said, her voice steady and echoing through the quiet club. "You committed loan fraud using my father's name. You stole my life work. You thought you could throw me away like trash because Camille offered you a shortcut to the top."
She stepped closer to the table, leaning over to look Daniel dead in the eye.
"You wanted to play in the big leagues, Daniel? This is what it looks like. You aren't a partner here. You're bait."
Julian’s eyes narrowed as he looked at Isabella, a dangerous curiosity flashing in his gaze. "She has teeth, Lorenzo. I'll give her that. But teeth don't matter when the law comes knocking. Arthur Whitfield is signing an arrest warrant for you by midnight, cousin. Racketeering, extortion, fraud."
Lorenzo chuckled. It was a dark, terrifying sound.
He reached into his coat, pulled out a thick leather folder, and tossed it onto the table in front of Julian.
"Open it," Lorenzo commanded.
Julian hesitated, then flicked open the folder. As his eyes scanned the documents inside, his arrogant expression slowly dissolved into sheer horror.

"What is this?" Julian whispered.
"That," Isabella answered for him, a sharp smirk touching her lips, "is the audit trail of your offshore accounts in Zurich. It proves you've been skimming off Lorenzo's port revenues to fund Daniel’s development projects. Arthur Whitfield isn't signing an arrest warrant for Lorenzo. He's signing one for you."
