Chapter 6 - THE FEDS CRASH THE PARTYAt that exact second, the heavy steel doors of the VIP suite didn't just open—they were blown inward with a deafening crash.

"FBI! FEDERAL AGENTS! NOBODY MOVE!"

Half a dozen tactical officers in full gear swarmed into the room, their automatic rifles raised and locked directly onto Marcus Vance. Before Marcus could even draw the small firearm hidden inside his jacket, two agents tackled him to the marble floor, slamming his face hard against the cold tiles and slapping heavy steel cuffs onto his wrists.

"Marcus Vance, you are under arrest for corporate extortion, international financial fraud, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping," the lead agent barked, hauling Marcus to his feet by his expensive collar.

As Marcus was dragged out of the room, his face twisted in a mask of absolute hatred and disbelief, he glared back at Blake and Claire. "You think this is over?" he screamed as the elevator doors swallowed him up. "The board will never let you keep the company, Blake! You're finished!"

The heavy door clicked shut, leaving the room in a sudden, breathless silence.

Blake stood frozen by the window, his chest heaving as the adrenaline slowly receded from his veins, leaving behind a profound, overwhelming wave of shock. He slowly turned his head to look at Claire, who had collapsed back against her pillows, breathing heavily from the exertion, her eyes closed in exhaustion.

"Claire..." Blake whispered, stepping forward and dropping to his knees beside the bed once again. "You... you had proof all this time?"

Claire opened her eyes, looking down at him with a soft, bittersweet smile. "I had to protect Isla, Blake. A mother does whatever it takes to keep her child safe from monsters like Marcus."

"Why didn't you come to me?" Blake’s voice broke, tears finally spilling over his eyelashes as he buried his face against the edge of her blanket. "Why did you carry that burden alone for seven years? I could have protected you! I had the power!"

"No, Blake, you didn't," Claire said gently, reaching out her thin hand to rest her fingers softly in his silver-streaked hair. "Your power was the very thing that blinded you. If I had come to you back then, Marcus would have used your own corporate empire to destroy us both before you even realized what was happening. You were surrounded by vipers, and you didn't even know it."

Blake gripped her hand, pressing his lips against her knuckles, letting the hot tears flow freely. For seven years, he had built a fortress of stone and gold, believing that wealth made him invincible. But kneeling here on the hospital floor, holding the hand of the woman he had lost and miraculously found again, he realized the terrifying truth:

He hadn't been a king. He had been a prisoner in his own golden cage.

"I am so sorry, Claire," he choked out, the words tearing through his throat like jagged glass. "I was blind. I was arrogant. I let my work consume everything that mattered. If you can ever find it in your heart to forgive me..."

"Hush, Blake," Claire interrupted softly, her green eyes shining with unshed tears. "We have a lot of healing to do. But right now... there's someone outside who needs her father."
