Chapter 7 - THE REUNION IN THE SUNLIGHTThree weeks later, the morning sun poured warmly through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of Blake’s penthouse overlooking Central Park.

The heavy, clinical smell of hospital antiseptics was gone, replaced by the faint, comforting scent of fresh coffee, vanilla candles, and roasted pastries.
Isla sat cross-legged on the plush white rug in the center of the living room, completely surrounded by an explosion of brand-new toys, coloring books, and a massive, life-sized stuffed teddy bear that towered over her. She was laughing out loud as she dressed a new doll in a glittery pink dress, her faded red coat and patched purple leggings locked away forever in the back of a charity bin.
On the wrap-around white leather sofa nearby, Claire sat propped up against a mountain of down pillows. She looked remarkably better. Her skin had regained its natural warmth, her cheeks were fuller, and her dark brown hair, freshly washed and falling softly around her shoulders, caught the morning light.
Blake walked out of the kitchen carrying a small porcelain tray with herbal tea and sliced fruit. He set it gently on the coffee table before sitting down beside Claire, wrapping a protective arm around her waist.
"Are you sure you're warm enough?" Blake asked, adjusting a cashmere throw blanket over her legs with practiced care.
Claire chuckled softly, leaning her head against his shoulder. "Blake, for the hundredth time, I am fine. You're treating me like I'm made of spun glass."
"You nearly died, Claire," he murmured, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of her head. "Forgive me if I want to make sure you never experience a cold breeze again for the rest of your life."
"Well, speaking of the rest of our lives..." Claire turned her head, looking at him with a mischievous sparkle in her green eyes. "What exactly are you going to do with a multi-billion-dollar global enterprise now that Marcus and his corrupt board members are spending their mornings in federal holding cells?"
Blake smiled, a genuine, relaxed smile that he hadn't felt in a decade.
"I called an emergency shareholders' meeting yesterday," Blake said calmly. "I restructured the entire corporate charter. I'm stepping down as active CEO, transitioning into a purely philanthropic oversight role. I'm handing day-to-day operations over to a coalition of ethical tech leaders, and I'm turning our corporate foundation into a global fund dedicated exclusively to pediatric cardiac care and housing for families in poverty."
Claire’s eyes widened in genuine surprise. "You're giving up the crown? The mighty Blake Hamilton is retiring from Wall Street?"
"Wall Street can keep its gold," Blake said softly, turning to look into her eyes with absolute devotion. "I spent my whole life building an empire, only to realize I was standing in an empty castle. My real wealth is right here."
At that moment, little Isla scampered across the rug, dragging her giant teddy bear behind her, and climbed unceremoniously onto the sofa right between them. She looked up at Blake with a wide, gap-toothed grin.
"Daddy," she announced importantly. "Can we go back to the traffic light today?"
Blake and Claire exchanged a startled look. Blake blinked, frowning slightly. "Why on earth would you want to go back to the traffic light, sweetheart?"
May you like
Isla giggled, patting Blake’s knee with her small hand. "So we can sell the rest of the oranges! We still have a whole crate left in the kitchen, and I promised Mr. policeman down the street that I'd give him one for free!"
Claire burst out laughing, a bright, musical sound that filled the penthouse with pure joy. Blake threw his head back and laughed with her, wrapping both of them tightly in his arms.
