Waiting propped against his heavy oak door was a thick, cream-colored envelope bearing no return address—only a neat, handwritten label containing his name.
He unlocked the door, flicked on his desk lamp, and tore the heavy paper open.
Inside was an official catalog from the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, featuring a major international retrospective titled: The Architecture of Silence: Modern Realism and the Industrial Soul.
Mark flipped through the heavy glossy pages, his breath catching in his throat.
Right there, featured in a two-page spread in the center of the catalog, was his charcoal series—The Cost of Ambition. Alongside it were several of Elena’s large-scale oil paintings depicting the brutal geometry of corporate towers dissolving into rain and mist.
Their work had been curated together. Not as a reconciliation of lovers, but as a dialogue between two artists who had survived the same corporate war from opposite sides of the glass.
Tucked into the back of the catalog was a small, handwritten note on heavy cardstock:
