Chapter 10 - A New DawnSix months later, the rainy chill of autumn had given way to the warm, vibrant bloom of early summer across the Reed estate.

The grand mansion no longer felt like a monument of expensive emptiness. The high ceilings echoed with the sound of running feet, giggles, and the sweet, comforting smell of home-baked cookies drifting from the kitchen.

On the sprawling lawn beneath the shade of an ancient oak tree, two little girls were weaving daisy chains together. Evie, wearing a bright yellow summer dress with her dark curls bouncing behind her, carefully placed a flower crown atop Maisie’s head.

A few feet away, two adults stood watching them from the veranda.

Clara Murphy—now the newly appointed Vice Chair of Reed Global Enterprises and the majority stakeholder of Murphy-Reed Industries—adjusted her sunglasses, a soft, genuine smile touching her lips.

Beside her, Malcolm Reed stood leaning against the wooden railing, holding a cup of coffee, watching her with a warmth in his eyes that the corporate world had never seen.

"You know," Malcolm said quietly, breaking the peaceful silence, "if your daughter hadn't decided to scale my attic stairs two nights before a major storm, I probably would have spent the rest of my life living in a gilded cage."

Clara turned her head, looking up at him with a playful, knowing spark in her eye.

"And if my daughter hadn't had exquisite taste in secret hideouts, you never would have paid for your past sins," Clara teased gently.

Malcolm smiled, reaching out to gently take her hand in his. The scars of the past—the corporate betrayals, the cold nights on Oak Street, the bitter tears—were gone, washed away by an unexpected act of childhood innocence that brought two broken worlds together.

"So," Malcolm asked softly, his thumb tracing the back of her hand. "Are you ever going to move out of the west suite, or are you planning to stay in my house forever?"

Clara looked out across the sunlit lawn, watching Evie and Maisie run laughing toward the garden fountain. She turned back to meet Malcolm’s gaze, her heart feeling lighter than it had in her entire life.

"Well," Clara whispered with a bright, beautiful smile, "that depends. Do you still have cookies in the attic?"
