Chapter 9 - The Reckoning"Thirty-four percent?" Julian shouted, slamming his hands onto the mahogany table as his face turned a mottled, furious shade of red. "That’s impossible! Those shares were liquidated and dissolved during the bankruptcy auction five years ago!"

"Weren't they, Julian?" Malcolm interjected smoothly, leaning against the back of Clara’s chair, his arms crossed over his chest. "Funny thing about liquidation auctions... sometimes the highest bidder turns out to be an anonymous trust managed by a very thorough legal team."
Julian’s breath hitched. He looked around the boardroom, desperately seeking support from the directors, but found only wide eyes, pale faces, and nervous whispers.
"This... this is a coup! A hostile stunt!" Julian shrieked, pointing a trembling finger at Clara. "She’s a fraud! She lived in a car on the streets! She has no legal standing to—"
"Quiet, Julian," Clara commanded, her voice dropping into a tone so icy and authoritative that the grown executive actually flinched.
She opened the legal document to page forty-two and slid it across the table toward the trembling senior director, Mr. Pendelton.
"Take a look at Exhibit B, Mr. Pendelton," Clara said evenly. "That’s a forensic audit of the last three quarters. Pay close attention to the wire transfers originating from the international shipping expansion fund. Notice how the capital isn't going to our foreign subsidiaries?"
Mr. Pendelton nervously adjusted his glasses, scanning the financial columns. His eyes widened in absolute horror.
"Good Lord," the director whispered, dropping the papers. "The funds... they're being routed through an off-shore shell company in the Caymans under the beneficiary name... Vance Holdings."
The boardroom went dead silent. Every single eye snapped to Julian Vance, who stood frozen at the head of the table, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water.
"You embezzled over forty million dollars of corporate assets while framing my father for your crimes," Clara said, standing up slowly from her chair, towering over the disgraced executive. "And today, the bill comes due."
Before Julian could bolt for the door, the glass doors behind him slid open again. Two uniformed federal marshals stepped quietly into the boardroom, their heavy boots clicking against the floor.
"Julian Vance," the lead marshal announced, stepping up beside the executive and pulling out a pair of steel handcuffs. "You are under arrest for corporate fraud, embezzlement, and securities tampering."
Julian tried to laugh, his voice cracking hysterically. "You can't do this! I am this company! Malcolm, tell them! Tell them this is a joke!"
Malcolm stepped forward, looking down at his former right-hand man with absolute, chilling contempt.
"The joke’s over, Julian," Malcolm said softly. "Take him away."

As the handcuffs clicked sharply around Julian’s wrists and he was hauled out of the boardroom in disgrace, a heavy, profound wave of closure settled over the room.
Clara stood by the window, watching the city skyline below. The sun broke fully through the clouds, bathing the fifty-thorough floor in a brilliant, golden light.
