Chapter 6 - The Confession on the Flash Drive"We can't just let him walk out of here," Natalie paced the length of the small living room, her boots clicking frantically against the floor. "He just threatened a child, Vance! He practically confessed to orchestrating the whole thing!"

"We don't need a confession from his mouth," Vance said calmly, walking back to the kitchen table. He was holding a small, black USB drive that had fallen out of the lining of the leather briefcase when Natalie threw her notepad down. "We need physical evidence that ties him to the truck crash."

Natalie stopped pacing. "What is that?"

"It was stitched into the inner pocket of Andrew’s spare winter coat," Vance said, plugging the flash drive into his department-issued encrypted tablet.

The screen flickered to life. A video file titled 'If_I_Dont_Come_Home.mp4' appeared on the desktop.

Natalie held her breath as Vance clicked play.

The grainy video illuminated Andrew Miller’s face in the dark interior of his truck. He looked exhausted, bags under his eyes, but his expression was resolute. In the background, the steady hum of a car engine and the sound of heavy rain filled the audio track.

"If you're watching this, it means I didn't make it back to Ashley," Andrew’s voice was steady, though laced with profound sorrow. "Councilman Sterling’s men ran me off the road tonight on Route 9. They’ve been tailing me for three days."

The camera angle shifted slightly as Andrew adjusted the phone mounted on his dashboard.

"They offered me two hundred thousand dollars to sign the property deed over to Sterling’s shell company. When I told them to go to hell, they said they'd frame me for child endangerment using Elena as their pawn. They said they'd make sure I never saw my little girl again."

Andrew looked directly into the camera lens, tears finally breaking free down his weathered cheeks.

"I recorded every phone call. I saved every bank transfer receipt and text message on the encrypted server linked to this drive. If anything happens to me... look behind the loose brick in the basement foundation of the old municipal water tower. That’s where they forced me to meet them last week."

The video suddenly shook violently. The audio caught the screech of tires, a sickening crunch of metal, and a blinding flash of headlights filling the cab before the screen went entirely black.

Natalie stood frozen, tears streaming down her face. "The water tower... that's less than a mile from where his truck was pushed off the cliff."

"And that," Vance said, standing up with a grim smile, "is our probable cause for a warrant that will tear City Hall down to the studs."
