Chapter 5 - The Confession on Record"She’s talking about bankruptcy, Victoria," Evelyn said, turning her piercing gaze toward the matriarch of the Mercer dynasty.

Grant lunged forward, gripping the edge of the stage. "You fabricated this! You hacked our systems!"

"Did I?" Evelyn raised her right hand, signaling toward the back of the ballroom.

The large projection screens behind the stage—which had moments ago displayed the glowing Mercer Capital logo—suddenly flickered. The corporate emblem vanished, replaced by a live-stream video feed from a secure legal office.

Appearing on the screen was Claire Nolan.

The young attorney sat at a conference table, trembling slightly, but speaking with absolute, rehearsed clarity into a recording microphone.

"My name is Claire Nolan," the audio echoed through the grand ballroom. "I am a junior legal associate at Mercer Capital. On October 14th, at approximately 11:45 PM, Mr. Grant Mercer forced me to use my terminal to execute a fraudulent four-million-dollar wire transfer into an offshore account, and instructed me to plant fabricated system logs framing Ms. Evelyn Hart for data theft. I have saved the original encrypted emails, chat transcripts, and audio recordings of his instructions."

The ballroom erupted into chaotic noise. Reporters shouted questions simultaneously. Flashbulbs strobed like lightning in a storm.

Grant stood paralyzed, his mouth moving soundlessly. The foundation he had inherited, the empire he had weaponized to crush the woman who built it, had dissolved into ash in less than three minutes.

"You're ruined, Grant," Evelyn said softly, stepping closer to the stage steps. "And the most poetic part of it all? You handed me the keys yourself the night you threw me out into the Chicago storm."

Victoria Mercer collapsed back into her chair, her manicured hands trembling as she stared at her son in absolute horror. "You fool," she whispered. "You absolute fool."
