Chapter 9 - THE ULTIMATE BETRAYALVictor Vance held the small silver flash drive up between his thumb and forefinger, the harsh industrial light glinting off its metal casing.

"Well, Marco?" Victor purred, a triumphant grin spreading across his wrinkled face. "The keys to your billion-dollar kingdom in exchange for your clean name and your precious little truth. Do we have a deal, or shall I let my associate pull the trigger on your dear sister-in-law right now?"

Clara’s muffled screams escalated into frantic, desperate wails. She thrashed against the wooden chair, her eyes locked on Elena, begging for salvation with every tear that streamed down her face.

Elena looked at her sister. Despite the betrayal, despite the shattered years and the agonizing nights of crying alone in the dark, a deep sisterly instinct flared within her chest. She couldn't watch her die.

"Marco..." Elena breathed, her voice trembling as she laid a gentle hand on his arm. "Sign it. Let's just end this. We have each other, we have the twins... money doesn't matter."

Marco looked down at her, his amber eyes softening with profound love and fierce protection. But beneath that warmth, a cold, calculating brilliance flickered in his gaze. He knew Victor Vance. A man like Victor didn't leave loose ends—especially not witnesses who knew the inner workings of a multi-million-dollar conspiracy.

"You think once I sign the shares over, you'll let us walk out of here alive, Victor?" Marco asked calmly, his voice echoing off the corrugated metal walls.

Victor laughed, a sharp, arrogant sound. "Marco, please. What do you take me for? Of course I'll let you walk. Down to the bottom of Lake Michigan, perhaps."

Before Victor could finish his sentence, Marco’s foot lashed out with blinding speed, kicking his discarded pistol off the concrete floor right into his waiting palm.

Clack-click!

In a fraction of a second, Marco raised the weapon, spinning on his heel and firing two precise shots.

Bang! Bang!

The two mercenaries flanking Victor didn't even have time to raise their assault rifles. Both men dropped instantly to the concrete, neutralized by non-lethal, high-impact tactical rounds to their shoulders and knees.

Victor’s smug smile vanished instantly, replaced by sheer, unadulterated panic. He lunged forward, grabbing Clara by the collar of her jacket and pressing a concealed pocket knife directly against her throat.

"Don't move! Don't move or I slice her throat right now!" Victor shrieked, spittle flying from his lips, his hand shaking violently as the cold steel bit into Clara’s skin, drawing a thin line of crimson.

Elena gasped, raising her hands in horror. "Victor, stop! Let her go!"

"Shut up!" Victor yelled, backing slowly toward the rear exit of the hangar where a idling getaway van sat waiting in the shadows. "Drop the gun, Marco! Drop it or she dies this second!"

Marco lowered his pistol just an inch, his amber eyes locked onto Victor with lethal intensity. "You're not going anywhere, Victor. The perimeter of this airstrip was secured ten minutes ago."

Victor froze, his eyes darting toward the hangar doors.

Right on cue, the heavy metal doors slammed wide open, flooding the dark space with blinding headlights. Four black SUVs roared into the hangar, their tactical floodlights illuminating the entire interior. Heavily armed Bellini security operatives poured out of the vehicles, their assault rifles raised, forming an impenetrable wall of steel and tactical gear.

"Drop the knife, Victor. It's over," David’s voice boomed over the engine roar.

Victor stared around the hangar, realizing with sinking horror that he was completely surrounded. His face twisted into an ugly mask of pure malice.

"If I'm going down, I'm taking the liar with me!" Victor screamed, raising the knife to plunge it directly into Clara’s chest.
