Chapter 1 - The Midnight FreezeThe rain lashed against the glass windows of the executive penthouse, but inside, the climate control hummed at a pristine 21 degrees Celsius. Julian Vance swirled a glass of 1982 Château Lafite Rothschild, his eyes fixed on the panoramic view of the coastline. His newly branded empire—the Vance International Grand—sparkled beneath the artificial lights.

Beside him, Chloe lounged on the velvet sectional, draped in Elena’s handcrafted cashmere coat. The priceless emerald pendant rested against her collarbone, catching the warm amber glow of the chandelier.

"You handled her brilliantly downstairs, Julian," Chloe purred, taking a slow sip of champagne. "For a second, I thought the staff might actually hesitate."

Julian chuckled, a low, arrogant sound. "Hesitate? Why would they? They answer to my signature on their paychecks. Elena was a ghost the moment she stepped out of that elevator. She never understood the corporate game. She was too soft, too content to stay in the background."

He walked over to his mahogany desk, reaching for his tablet to check the overnight reservation metrics for the flagship resort. A small smile crept across his lips. Occupancy was at ninety-eight percent. VIP guests were dropping millions on weekend packages. He felt invincible.

He tapped the screen to open the master administrative portal—the gateway that controlled the master keycard servers, financial accounts, wire transfers, and corporate overrides.

Access Denied.

Julian frowned. He blinked, assuming his fingerprint scanner had smudged. He wiped his thumb on his designer shirt and pressed it against the sensor again.

Biometric Authentication Failed. Account Suspended.

"Strange," Julian muttered under his breath, typing in his master administrator password manually.

Error Code 403: Master Corporate Credentials Revoked. Please contact your parent holding entity.

A cold knot tightened in Julian’s stomach. He clicked open the financial dashboard to check the corporate liquidity pool. The screen flashed a stark, blinding crimson warning.

Account Balance: $0.00. All associated credit lines frozen by order of Sterling Global Trust.

Julian’s breath hitched. Sterling Global Trust? That was impossible. Sterling was the legendary, elusive conglomerate that had silently backed the resort’s initial expansion nine years ago. But Julian had spent years convincing himself—and everyone else—that he had bought out their silent equity years ago through clever leveraged buyouts.

"Julian?" Chloe asked, noticing the sudden rigidity in his shoulders. "Is something wrong with the bookings?"

Before Julian could answer, his private desk phone began to blare. It wasn't an ordinary ring; it was the high-priority emergency line reserved exclusively for board chairs and institutional lenders.

With trembling fingers, Julian snatched up the receiver. "Vance."

"Mr. Vance," a cold, computerized, emotionless voice answered from corporate headquarters. "This is automated legal notification from the General Counsel of Sterling Trust. Effective immediately at 03:00 hours, all executive privileges, proprietary ownership rights, facility management licenses, and secondary access keys assigned to Julian Vance are null and void. You are hereby ordered to vacate the premises by 06:00 hours."

"What are you talking about?!" Julian roared, his face flushing crimson. "I am the CEO! I built this company from the ground up! You can't just—"

May you like

"Mr. Vance," the voice interrupted, completely unfazed. "You never owned the ground. You were merely leasing it from the family that built the foundation before you were born. Have a quiet morning."

The line went dead.
