Chapter 3 - Dawn at the GatesBy 5:00 AM, the morning fog rolling in from the ocean was cut through by the sharp, blinding glare of a dozen black armored vehicles idling at the grand entrance of the Vance International Grand.

Inside the penthouse, Julian was pacing frantically, his designer suit rumpled, sweat beading on his forehead. He had tried calling every board member, every major investor, every political contact he had cultivated over the decade.

Every single number went straight to voicemail. Or worse—a pre-recorded message stating: “This subscriber no longer exists within the Sterling network.”

Chloe was wide awake now, pacing behind him, her face drained of its smug color. She was still wearing Elena’s cashmere coat, but it suddenly looked less like a trophy and more like a straitjacket.

"Julian, what is going on?!" Chloe hissed, grabbing his arm. "Downstairs looks like a war zone! There are armed guards in suits surrounding the perimeter, and they aren't letting any hotel staff move!"

"Shut up, Chloe!" Julian snapped, slamming his fist against the glass partition. "Just shut up and let me think!"

There was a sharp, heavy knock on the heavy oak double doors of the penthouse. It wasn't a hotel employee’s polite tap. It was the deliberate, rhythmic, bone-chilling knock of authority.

Julian stared at the door. "Who's there?" he demanded, his voice cracking slightly.

The door didn't open. Instead, the smart-lock flashed a brilliant, blinding green, and the heavy bolts slid back with a mechanical hiss.

The door swung wide open.

Standing in the doorway was not a police officer, nor a disgruntled investor. It was a man in an impeccably tailored charcoal suit, silver hair neatly combed, eyes as cold and sharp as winter ice. Behind him stood four armed private security operatives bearing the gold-embossed crest of the Montague Global Syndicate.

Julian stepped back, his breath catching in his throat. "Arthur... Arthur Montague? What... what are you doing here? This is my property! You can't just barge into—"

Arthur Montague—Elena’s father—stepped slowly into the penthouse. He didn't look at Julian. His eyes swept over the luxurious furnishings, the scattered champagne flutes, and finally landed on Chloe, who shrank back against the sofa.

Then, Arthur looked at Julian. A slow, terrifyingly calm smile touched the older man's lips.

"Your property, Julian?" Arthur’s voice was smooth, carrying the effortless weight of absolute dominion. "Let’s clarify something before the sun fully rises over the horizon. You never owned a single square inch of this land. You were a tenant at will. And your lease has just expired."

Julian swallowed hard, his knees feeling weak. "Elena... Where is Elena? This is a mistake! We were married! We built this empire together—"

"You built nothing," Arthur interrupted sharply, his voice dropping an octave, carrying a lethal finality. "You married my daughter believing you had hitched your wagon to a brilliant, quiet designer who would fund your delusions of grandeur. You took her silence for weakness. You took her patience for stupidity."

Arthur gestured toward Chloe. "And last night, you had the supreme arrogance to throw her out into the rain."

Julian’s blood ran cold. "You... you knew?"

"I know everything that happens within my family's walls, Julian," Arthur said softly, walking closer until he stood mere inches from the panicked CEO. "And as of three minutes ago, the corporate registry has been legally cleansed of your name. Every share you claimed to own has reverted to its true primary beneficiary."

"No..." Julian whispered, stumbling backward until his legs hit the edge of the desk. "No, that's impossible. The board voted—"

"The board answers to the primary trust," Arthur replied smoothly. "And the primary trust belongs to Elena Montague."
