Chapter 1 - The Bloodline Engraving

âYou are... the Blood Heiress.âThe ballroom was suspended in a vacuum of silence so absolute you could hear the subtle hum of the crystal chandeliers overhead. The silver tray in the older manâs hand clattered against the marble floor, echoing like a gunshot.
The blonde woman, Victoria Vance, took a step back, her gold-plated scissors still clutching her manicured fingers. "What is the meaning of this, Arthur?" she snapped, trying to maintain her icy composure. "Sheâs a nobody! A low-class intruder who snuck into the Vance Gala!"
Arthurâthe Chief Custodian of the Imperial Heritage Vault and the most feared appraiser in the high-society underworldâignored her completely. His eyes were wide, glazed with tears and utter terror. He fell to his knees in front of the young girl, his hands shaking as he lightly touched the exposed skin just below her shoulder blade where the torn blue satin had given way.
There, right beside her collarbone, sat a small, faint, starlike birthmarkâand directly beside it, microscopic silver-ink scarring in the shape of a double-crested dragon. It was an imperial lineage mark, impossible to forge, injected into the skin of infants born only to the secret founders of the global financial syndicate known as the Vanguard Circle.
"My God..." Arthurâs voice vibrated through the silent hall. "You are not a guest, miss. You are... Sophia Vance-Rothschild. The sole surviving blood heiress of the true Vance Empire."
Gasps erupted from every corner of the room. Phones dropped. Wine glasses shattered.
Victoriaâs face turned from smug arrogance to ash gray. "That's impossible! The true branch was destroyed eighteen years ago in the Alps plane crash! My father inherited everything legally!"
Sophia stood frozen, her shivering fingers holding the torn fabric against her chest. She looked down at the massive 100-carat Tears of Athena diamond necklace now resting heavy on her collarbone, and then at the old man trembling at her feet.
"I... I don't know who you think I am," Sophia whispered, her voice trembling. "My mother was a seamstress. She died last month in a public hospital... she gave me this torn dress to come here and return a sign-in sheet..."
"Your mother was Empress Eleanor," Arthur declared loudly, rising to his feet and wheeling around to face the shocked elite of the city. "And the woman who raised you hid you in the dark to protect you from them!" He pointed a accusatory finger straight at Victoria.
Victoriaâs eyes narrowed into slits of rage. "Guards! Escort this delusional old fool and this wretched imposter out of my house immediately!"
Four heavily armed security officers in tactical suits stepped forward, reaching for their batons.
Suddenly, Sophiaâs phone vibrated in her pocket. A automated, icy artificial voice echoed through her hidden earpieceâa device she had worn since childhood without knowing its purpose.
âIdentity Verified. Heiress Sophia. Protocol Zero Activated. Transferring 50 Billion Dollars into Master Account. Commencing Vault Lockdown.â

The high-tech security doors of the ballroom suddenly slammed shut with a deafening hydraulic hiss. The lights flickered and turned a dangerous crimson.
CLIFFHANGER HOOK: As Victoria screamed in panic, Arthur leaned into Sophiaâs ear and whispered the truth that changed everything: "Your mother didn't die of illness, Sophia. The woman who cut your dress tonight... was the one who poisoned your mother."
