Chapter 2 - The $50 Billion Coup

âTonight, the poor girl buys the room.âThe crimson emergency lights cast long, ominous shadows across the marble floor. Panic began to ripple through the elite crowd. CEOs, politicians, and aristocrats scrambled toward the exits, only to find the heavy steel doors locked tight.
Victoria gripped her scissors so tightly her knuckles turned white. "What did you do?!" she shrieked at Sophia. "This is my estate! My gala! Override the system!"
Sophia stood rooted to the spot, but something within her shifted. The humiliation that had gripped her chest moments ago began to burn away, replaced by an unfamiliar, cold clarity. The weight of the Tears of Athena necklace felt less like jewelry and more like armor.
Arthur stepped between Sophia and the advancing security guards. He pulled a black velvet bound tablet from his inner coat pocket and tapped the glowing screen.
"Twenty minutes ago," Arthur announced, his voice booming across the red-lit chamber, "Victoria Vance placed a bid on the controlling shares of Vance Global Logistics using fraudulent signatures. But five seconds ago, the master key to the Rothschild Vault was unlocked via biometric confirmationâby Sophia."
A collective gasp swept through the room.
Arthur turned the tablet toward the crowd. A live financial ticker displayed a sudden, astronomical surge. Millions turned to billions, shifting rapidly across global markets.
"Sophia Vance-Rothschild now holds an 85% majority stake in every asset under the Vance umbrella," Arthur said, a dangerous smile touching his lips. "Which means, Victoria... this estate, the clothes on your back, and even the gold scissors in your hand... belong to her."
Victoria flushed crimson with humiliation and rage. "You lie! Guards, shoot them! I pay your salaries!"
The chief of security hesitated, looking at his tactical wristwatch screen. His eyes widened as a notification flashed: Employer Account Updated: Sophia Vance-Rothschild. Bonus Deposited: $500,000 Per Unit.
Slowly, the four guards turned away from Sophia and aligned themselves in front of Victoria, their weapons trained directly on her.
"What are you doing?!" Victoria screamed, backing up against the champagne fountain. "I built this empire!"
Sophia took a slow step forward. Her torn blue dress swayed with her movement, but no one was laughing now. The elite who had spent the last hour mocking her poverty were now bowing their heads, terrified to meet her gaze.
"You took everything from my mother," Sophia said, her voice surprisingly steady, echoing through the cavernous room. "You threw her into the gutter and left us with nothing while you lived in luxury."
"You know nothing, you ungrateful leech!" Victoria spat back. "Your mother was weak! She didn't have what it takes to rule this city!"
"Maybe she didn't," Sophia replied, stopping inches away from Victoria. She reached out, gently took the gold scissors from Victoria's trembling hand, and let them drop onto the marble floor with a sharp metallic clatter. "But I do."
Sophia turned her back on Victoria and looked at the crowd. "Everyone who laughed tonight... your credit lines are revoked. Your contracts are terminated. Leave this building on foot."
Screams of outrage and pleas for mercy erupted, but Sophia didn't care. She walked toward the grand staircase, Arthur following close behind.

As she reached the first step, a sharp, mechanical click echoed from the balcony above.
CLIFFHANGER HOOK: Sophia looked up to see a dark figure perched on the upper railingâa sniper rifle aimed directly at her chest. And standing beside the shooter was a man she recognized instantly: her thought-to-be-dead father.
