Chapter 4 - The Vault of Sins

“The truth doesn't set you free—it burns you alive.”BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

The rapid, high-pitched chirping of the tactical collars filled the crimson-lit ballroom with blind terror. The four security guards panicked, clawing desperately at their necks, trying to strip off the explosive devices hardwired into their armor.

"Julian, you monster!" Arthur yelled, grabbing Sophia’s arm. "Run! The entire protocol is rigged to detonate if the inheritance is rejected!"

"Nobody leaves," Julian cold-stated, pulling a sleek black detonator from his pocket. "If I cannot control the true heir, then the secrets of the Vance family die in this room tonight."

Victoria scrambled toward Julian, begging for mercy. "Uncle! I served you! I followed your orders! Don't leave me here!"

Julian didn't even look at her. He kicked her hand away with callous disdain. "You were merely a distraction, Victoria. A petty bully meant to push Sophia to her breaking point. You have outlived your usefulness."

As panic erupted and guests threw themselves against the reinforced glass windows, Sophia's mind raced. Her mother’s final words echoed in her memory: “When the shadows fall, trust the scar, not the stone.”

Sophia looked down at her collarbone. The Tears of Athena necklace was heavy, but her birthmark felt warm against her skin. She realized the necklace wasn't just a scanner—it was a override key.

Without hesitation, Sophia grabbed the massive central diamond of the necklace and pressed it directly against the dragon-crested scar on her chest.

A bright blue light flared from the gem.

“Biological Master-Override Accepted,” a calm computer voice resonated through the PA system. “Disarming all local tactical charges. Transferring primary security protocol to Heir Sophia.”

The frantic red lights instantly turned a cool, steady emerald green. The high-pitched beeping on the guards' collars stopped instantly. The heavy steel doors hissed open, unlocking every exit in the facility.

Julian’s jaw dropped. "Impossible... how did you know the manual bypass?"

"Because my mother actually loved me," Sophia said, stepping forward as the guards—now furious at Julian’s betrayal—turned their weapons toward him. "She gave me the key before you could corrupt it."

Julian backed away toward the private elevator behind the grand staircase, his eyes darting wildly. "You think you've won? You only hold the surface assets, Sophia! The real power—the underground vault containing the blackmail files on every world leader—is hidden beneath this floor!"

He slammed his hand on the elevator button. "And I'm going to release it all to destroy the world you think you're saving!"

CLIFFHANGER HOOK: Before the elevator doors could close, Arthur lunged forward and threw a heavy steel briefcase between the doors, jamming them. He turned to Sophia with a terrified expression. "Sophia... the underground vault... your mother isn't dead. She's being kept alive down there as the power source!"
