Chapter 3 - Shadows of the Patriarch

âTrust no one, especially the ones who claim to love you.âThe sight of her father, Lord Julian Vance, standing alive on the upper balcony sent a shockwave through Sophiaâs chest. For eighteen years, she had been told he perished in the snowy peaks of the Alps. Yet there he stoodâimmaculately dressed in a charcoal suit, a cold, calculating expression etched into his features.
"Stand down," Julianâs voice echoed over the balcony speakers, smooth and hypnotic.
The sniper lowered his weapon, but the tension in the room remained razor-sharp.
Victoria gasped, dropping to her knees. "Uncle Julian... you're... you're back? Help me! This girlâthis bastard child is trying to steal everything!"
Julian slowly descended the grand staircase, his leather shoes clicking methodically against the marble steps. His eyes, cold and slate-gray, never left Sophia.
"She is no bastard, Victoria," Julian said calmly as he reached the main floor. "She is my masterpiece."
Sophia felt a chill run down her spine. "Masterpiece?" she whispered, her hands tightening around the torn fabric of her dress. "You left us. You left my mother and me to starve in a slum while you played dead!"
Julian smiled, a chilling, emotionless curve of his lips. "Starve? No, my dear child. You were hidden. A seed planted in the dark, forced to grow strong through suffering. Had you been raised in luxury like Victoria, you would have become soft. Weak. Indulgent."
He gestured to the ballroom full of disgraced elites. "Look at them. Sheep. Tonight was your final test. The tear in your dress, the public humiliation, the sudden activation of Protocol Zero... I arranged it all."
Arthur froze, stepping back. "Lord Julian... you used the Tears of Athena as a trigger?"
"Of course," Julian replied casually. "The diamonds contain the micro-scanner that verified her biological mark under extreme emotional distress. Suffering activates the bloodline's true potential. And now, Sophia, you are ready to take your seat at the head of the Vanguard Circle."
Sophia stared at the man who was supposed to be her father. The warmth she had craved as an orphan vanished, replaced by an overwhelming sense of disgust.
"You didn't protect us," she said, her voice dripping with venom. "You experimented on us. My mother spent her final days coughing up blood in a dark room while you watched through cameras!"
"A necessary sacrifice for ultimate power," Julian said, offering his hand toward her. "Come with me now. Together, we will rewrite the global order."
Sophia looked at his extended hand, then at Arthur, whose eyes held a desperate warning. She realized in that instant that her father was not a saviorâhe was the ultimate villain behind her mother's tragedy.
"No," Sophia said clearly.
Julianâs smile vanished. "Excuse me?"

"I don't want your seat. I don't want your bloodline," Sophia said, her voice growing stronger. "Iâm taking the $50 billion... and using it to destroy you."
CLIFFHANGER HOOK: Julianâs face darkened with absolute fury. He raised his hand and pressed a remote control. "A tragic shame," he muttered. "If the key won't obey the master... then the vault must be liquidated." Instantly, the collars worn by every security guard began to beep in a synchronized, terrifying rhythm.
