Chapter 3 - The Ghost in the Master SuiteRichard pushed open the heavy mahogany door of the master suite, stepping into a room that reeked faintly of lavender-scented sleeping pills and forced medical compliance.

On the king-sized bed lay Sarah Whitaker—once a vibrant concert pianist, now a frail, hollow-eyed ghost of her former self. Her skin was alabaster pale, her breathing shallow and irregular.

"Grandpa...?" Ethan whispered softly against Richard’s neck, his small hands clutching the lapel of the overcoat. "Is Mommy sleeping again?"

"Yes, my boy," Richard murmured, his voice softening instantly as he addressed the child—a stark, terrifying contrast to the executioner he had been downstairs. "She’s been sleeping for a very long time. But we’re going to wake her up now. For good."

Richard laid Ethan gently down on the plush velvet armchair by the fireplace, wrapping him in an electric throw blanket he flicked on with a practiced touch. He then walked over to the bedside, looking down at his daughter. Her eyelids fluttered at his approach, her lips parting in a dry, cracked murmur.

"Dad...?" Sarah whispered, her eyes unfocused. "Did... did Ethan come inside? I heard him crying... for hours... Claudia said he was being taught discipline..."

"It’s over, sweetheart," Richard said, taking her ice-cold hand in his own large, steady palm. "The nightmare is finished. Look at me."

Sarah blinked sluggishly, trying to focus. "My head... everything feels so heavy..."

"That’s because your dear sister-in-law—or rather, the monster Mark married—has been slipping neuroleptic sedatives into your evening tea to keep you from interfering with her household rules," Richard said, his voice hard as iron. "Vance!"

The attorney appeared at the doorway instantly. "Sir?"

"Call Dr. Henderson. Have an emergency medical team airlift Sarah to the Whitaker Private Clinic in Geneva within the hour. Run a full heavy-metal and pharmaceutical panel. I want every trace of that poison flushed out of her system."

"Already on it, Mr. Whitaker. The helicopter is touching down on the helipad as we speak."

Downstairs, the distant wail of police sirens began to wail through the crisp night air, signaling the arrival of both the authorities and the child protection agency. Mark and Claudia’s empire of cruelty was crumbling into dust before the ink on the asset freeze could even dry.
