Chapter 3 - THE UNRAVELING OF COLONEL REYNOLDSBack in the grand hall of the Fort Carson estate, the silence was suffocating.

The gathered relatives—high-ranking officers, politicians, and wealthy socialites—stood frozen in shock. Some stared at me with open hostility; others looked at Daniel with sudden, profound suspicion. In military culture, dishonor is a contagious disease. The moment you are linked to fraud, your career doesn't just stall—it detonates.
Daniel’s fiancée, whose name tag I now remembered from the intelligence brief as Victoria Vance—ironically no relation to me—backed away slowly, her eyes wide with horror.
"Daniel," Victoria said, her voice shaking with suppressed rage. "Is this true? What is that boy talking about? What picture of your mother is in an evidence folder?"
"Victoria, shut up," Daniel hissed, sweat beading along his hairline. He tried to regain his posture, puffing out his chest and attempting to project the arrogant authority that had made him a colonel. He glared at me, his eyes burning with helpless fury. "Kesha, whatever sick game you’re playing here, whatever forged documents you brought with you to stage this theatrical stunt—it won't work. Get these kids out of my house before I have you arrested for trespassing and impersonating federal officers."
Before I could speak, Special Agent Vance—my senior investigator stationed at the door—stepped forward, flashing his federal badge high enough for every person in the room to see.
"Federal warrants, Colonel Reynolds," Vance announced loudly, his voice carrying absolute authority. "Issued by the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas and co-signed by the Department of Defense Inspector General. You are not arresting anyone, sir. You are currently being detained pending a full federal inquiry into financial embezzlement, wire fraud, and falsification of vital government records."
Margaret shrieked, stumbling forward and grabbing Daniel’s arm. "No! They can't do that! Daniel, don't let them—"
"Quiet, Margaret," I said, stepping closer and pulling a thick manila folder from the waterproof tactical pouch attached to my belt. I flipped it open, revealing crisp, high-resolution color printouts and financial transaction logs. "You thought you covered your tracks when you bribed that clinic doctor in twenty-eight to destroy my medical files. But you forgot one major flaw in your elite planning: digital footprints never truly vanish."
I turned the folder toward Daniel, letting the overhead chandelier light catch the bold red header stamped across the top page: CLASSIFIED EVIDENCE: OPERATION MIDNIGHT LEDGER.
"Want to explain to your colleagues, Colonel, why your mother’s personal offshore account funded your entire promotion campaign using kickbacks from illegally diverted military logistics contracts in the Middle East?" I asked, locking my eyes onto his. "Or should we start with the falsified death certificate of your unborn children that you signed off on to collect a military hardship exemption?"

Daniel’s knees buckled. He grabbed the edge of the mahogany mantelpiece to keep from collapsing.
The room erupted into absolute chaos.
