Chapter 8 - A NEW HORIZONBack in Austin, spring had finally arrived, painting the Texas landscape in vibrant shades of green and gold.

My division had officially completed its report on the defense contractor corruption ring, leading to twelve high-profile indictments across the Department of Defense and shutting down a multi-million-dollar money-laundering network. The Governor of Texas personally presented my unit with the State Star of Valor during a ceremony at the state capitol.
As I stood on the grand marble steps of the capitol building, wearing my full dress uniform with my four children sitting front row in the audience, I felt a profound sense of closure.
Noah waved a small American flag enthusiastically. Ethan adjusted his miniature officer’s cap—which he still wore proudly—while Sophia and Olivia giggled over a shared juice box.
When the governor called my name, I stepped forward to accept the gold medal, the cameras flashing like lightning bolts across the plaza. But my mind wasn't on the applause or the cameras.
It was on the four little miracles who had given me the strength to become who I am today.
After the ceremony ended, the crowd surged forward to offer congratulations, but my children broke through the line first, running straight into my arms.
"We're so proud of you, Mama!" Noah shouted, burying his face in my uniform jacket.

I dropped to one knee, wrapping my arms tightly around all four of them, burying my face in their hair, breathing in their sweet, chaotic energy.
"Thank you, my loves," I whispered, tears of pure joy prickling at the corners of my eyes. "Thank you for being my greatest adventure."
