CHAPTER 9 — "The Secret Hidden for Thirty Years Finally Came to Light."
Just when everyone believed the story had reached its ending...
Emma received an unexpected phone call.
The caller was the restaurant's elderly founder, Mr. Hassan.
"I found something that belongs to you," he said quietly.
The next morning, Emma arrived before the restaurant opened.
Mr. Hassan carefully placed a small wooden box on the table.
"It was left in our storage room decades ago," he explained.
"Your father asked me to give it to you only when I believed you were truly ready."
Emma slowly opened the box.
Inside was an old leather notebook, a faded photograph, and a handwritten letter.
The photograph showed her father standing beside a much younger Kareem's father.
Both men were smiling in simple restaurant uniforms.
Emma stared at the picture in disbelief.
"They knew each other?"
Mr. Hassan nodded.
"They weren't just coworkers."
"They were best friends."
Emma unfolded the letter with trembling hands.
Her father's familiar handwriting filled the page.
"If you're reading this, it means you've learned that dignity cannot be bought."
"Kareem's father and I started our careers washing dishes together. We dreamed that if either of us ever became successful, we would never forget the people who helped us climb."
Emma's eyes filled with tears.
The letter continued.
"Life took us in different directions. One friend remembered the promise. The other family slowly forgot it."
"If you ever meet Kareem, don't hate him. Remind him of the promise his father once made beside me."
Emma carefully closed the letter.
