Chapter 8 - The Betrayal of Katya"Katya," Marius said, his voice strangely calm, though his gray eyes hardened into blocks of ice. "Twenty years. You served my father. You served me."

"I served the Orlov family, Marius!" Katya spat, her knuckles white on the grip of the gun. "Your father was a king! He ruled Naples with absolute fear and bloody ambition! But you... you became weak! You spent three years hovering over this accountant's daughter like a sick dog, wasting millions protecting her, softening your hand!"
"So you made a deal with the Camorra," Marius deduced smoothly, taking a fraction of a step forward, putting himself partially in front of me. "You set up the hit last night. You set up the Interpol trap at Pier 14."
"The Camorra promised to leave the core assets intact," Katya sneered. "They only wanted you dead, and Bianca framed as the Interpol informant who brought you down. Her father was a traitor; it was easy to construct a digital paper trail showing she was following in his footsteps!"
My blood ran cold. She hadn't just tried to kill Marius—she had meticulously engineered a trap that would leave me blamed for his death and hunted by both the mafia and the law.
"You underestimated one thing, Katya," I said, stepping out from behind Marius, staring her dead in the eye.
Katya raised an eyebrow. "Oh? And what's that, little girl?"
"You thought I was just his assistant," I said, my voice echoing with absolute authority.
Without warning, I slammed my foot down on the red emergency security foot-pedal built under the master control desk.
CLANG!
A heavy, solid-steel blast door slammed down from the ceiling frame between us and Katya, cutting off her line of sight.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Katya fired three rounds into the steel shutter, but the heavy armor held effortlessly.
"Lev! Illya!" Marius roared into his radio. "Katya is the mole! Seal the estate! Do not let her leave alive!"
The alarm sirens began to blare throughout the mansion, painting the red emergency lights across the room. Marius turned to me, a fierce, dark smile breaking across his features.
"You hit the emergency lock," he said, looking at me with something bordering on awe.

"I told you," I said, my chest heaving as adrenaline surged through my veins. "I'm not just your assistant anymore. Now, what are we going to do about Pier 14?"
"We are going to give Katya and her Camorra friends exactly what they want," Marius gritted out, racking the slide of a fresh firearm. "A war."
