Chapter 7 - THE MASTERMIND UNMASKEDOn the night of my eighteenth birthday, my father and stepmother had orchestrated Brittany’s takeover of the party to keep me distracted and emotionally broken. While I was crying in the parking lot, my father utilized a forged power-of-attorney document—claiming I was emotionally unstable and unfit—to seize control of the Sterling Steel Trust!

They didn't just steal my party. They stole my biological mother’s entire legacy and transferred the funds into Brittany’s personal accounts and Dad’s failing firm!
"Where is Brittany right now?" I demanded, my blood boiling with a rage I had never felt before.
"She’s at your father’s primary estate," Marcus warned. "She knows the federal marshals are coming tomorrow to seize everything. She’s trying to liquidate what’s left of the Sterling physical assets—paintings, heirlooms, Clara's jewelry."
"Not on my watch," I growled, grabbing my coat.
Twenty minutes later, my black SUV slammed to a halt in front of the Brooks mansion. I pushed the front doors open. The house was in utter chaos—vases turned over, papers scattered across the marble floor.
At the end of the grand hallway stood Brittany, clutching a heavy metal briefcase filled with antique jewelry that had belonged to Clara Sterling.
When she saw me, her eyes burned with psychotic fury. "You!" she screamed, snatching a glass bottle from a nearby table and smashing it against the wall, holding the jagged edge out toward me. "You took everything from me! My fiancé, my reputation, my parents' freedom!"

"Put the briefcase down, Brittany," I said, stepping forward without a shred of fear. "That jewelry belonged to my real mother."
Brittany laughed—a crazed, hysterical laugh. "Real mother? Oh, so you found out, huh? Mom told me everything three years ago! You think you were special? You were just a golden ticket! Dad and Mom used your dead mother's money to give ME the life I deserved! You were born to be our sacrificial lamb!"
