Chapter 6 - The Lion’s DenThe grand ballroom of The Drake Hotel was filled with opulence. Crystal chandeliers hung from vaulted ceilings, casting warm light over hundreds of wealthy investors, politicians, and news reporters.

At the front stage stood Margaret Whitmore, dressed in an elegant black velvet gown, holding a glass of champagne. Beside her stood Ethan and Lauren, looking like the picture-perfect grieving family.

Margaret stepped up to the podium, adjusting the microphone. The room fell silent.

"Thank you, everyone, for coming tonight," Margaret began, her voice carrying a forged cadence of profound grief. "As many of you know, our family has suffered unimaginable tragedies. First, the loss of my sweet daughter-in-law, Claire. And now... the horrific mental collapse of my eldest son, Daniel, who has taken Ethan’s precious twin girls."

She paused, dabbing a fake tear from her eye with a silk handkerchief.

"We pray for Daniel's safe return so he can receive the psychiatric help he so desperately needs. In the meantime, as the newly appointed head of Whitmore Holdings, I promise to guide this company with—"

CLICK.

Suddenly, the massive crystal chandeliers flamed out. The entire ballroom dropped into total darkness.

Gasps and panicked murmurs echoed through the crowd.

"Security! Get the emergency generators on!" Ethan shouted into his radio.

A second later, the massive projection screens behind the main stage flickered to life. But instead of the corporate logo, a video began to play.

It was high-definition hidden camera footage from Claire’s bedroom.

The audio boomed through the ballroom's stadium-grade sound system:

"Once she's gone, Daniel will be too broken to manage the estate," Margaret’s recorded voice echoed with crystal clarity. "Ethan takes over the holdings. But we must find where she hid the offshore trust for the unborn twins..."

The crowd went dead silent. Hundreds of mouths dropped open.

The video cut to another angle showing Ethan holding a forged document, laughing as he forged Claire’s signature onto the legal guardianship papers for the twins.

"Turn it off! TURN IT OFF NOW!" Margaret screamed frantically, dropping her champagne glass, which shattered on the marble floor.

"I’m afraid I can’t let you do that, Mother," a strong, commanding voice echoed from the back of the ballroom.

The spotlight swung around, illuminating the center aisle.

There stood Daniel Whitmore, clad in a sharp black suit, walking slowly toward the stage with absolute confidence. Beside him were six armed officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, led by a senior federal prosecutor.

The entire room erupted into chaos. News camera flashes blinded the stage as reporters scrambled to capture the moment.

"Daniel!" Margaret shrieked, her regal composure completely collapsing into pure panic. "He’s insane! Arrest him! He’s armed!"

"The only criminals here are standing on that stage," Daniel said, his voice echoing across the silent room as he stepped up to the podium.

He looked directly into the news cameras broadcasting live to millions of homes across the nation.

"Two days ago, I was branded a murderer and a kidnapper," Daniel announced calmly. "But tonight, the truth comes to light. My mother, Margaret, and my brother, Ethan, systematically poisoned my wife, Claire, to steal her multi-million dollar estate. And when Claire secretly bore our surrogate twin daughters, Ivy and Skye, my family attempted to erase them to cover their tracks."

"Lies! All lies!" Ethan roared, lunging toward Daniel.
