Chapter 7 - The Final BetrayalThe crowd screamed as people scrambled over chairs to escape the ballroom.

Ethan stood near the stage, holding a compact pistol, his eyes wild with unhinged desperation. He wasn't aiming at the police—he was pointing the gun directly at Daniel's chest.

"You ruined everything, Daniel!" Ethan screamed, his face contorted in rage. "Mom promised me the company! She promised me everything! You were always the favorite, always the golden child! Claire left that fortune to her children, not us!"

"Drop the weapon, Ethan!" the lead FBI agent ordered, weapon raised. "Drop it now!"

"Shut up!" Ethan yelled back. "If I'm going down, he comes with me!"

Margaret rushed forward, grabbing Ethan's arm frantically. "Ethan, no! Put it away! You're going to ruin the legal strategy!"

"Get off me, Mom!" Ethan shoved Margaret hard, sending his own mother crashing to the floor. "You did this! You promised me we wouldn't get caught! You told me Helen was taken care of!"

The entire confession was captured live on national news. Every word, every admissions of guilt, broadcasted to millions of viewers in real-time.

Daniel didn't flinch. He stepped closer to his brother, taking the full brunt of the gun pointed at his chest.

"It’s over, Ethan," Daniel said softly, his voice cold and steady. "You sold your soul for money that was never yours. Put the gun down before you make a mistake you can't come back from."

Ethan’s hand trembled violently. Tears of sheer panic streamed down his face as he realized the magnitude of what he had done. He looked at the news cameras, at the federal agents, at his mother sitting ruined on the floor.

With a broken sob, Ethan lowered the weapon and dropped it onto the floor.

Federal agents instantly swarmed the stage, tackling Ethan to the ground and slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists. Another team of agents pulled Margaret up from the floor, securing her wrists behind her back as she shrieked hysterically.

"You can't do this to me! Do you know who I am?!" Margaret screamed, struggling against the agents. She turned her venomous glare toward Daniel. "You ungrateful brat! I gave you life! I built this family!"

Daniel walked up to his mother, looking down at her with a mix of deep sorrow and absolute contempt.

"You didn't build a family, Margaret," Daniel said quietly. "You built an empire of greed. And today, it crumbles."

As the police led Margaret, Ethan, and Lauren away in handcuffs through a sea of flashing news cameras, Marcus Vance walked up to Daniel, holding his phone.

"It’s done, Daniel," Marcus smiled softly. "The federal judge just issued an emergency decree. All forged custody papers have been thrown out. The court has officially recognized you as the sole, rightful father of Ivy and Skye."

Daniel closed his eyes, taking a long, ragged breath. The nightmare was finally ending.

"Where are my girls?" Daniel asked.

"They're safe," Marcus replied. "They're waiting for you."

But as Daniel walked toward the exit of the hotel, his burner phone vibrated in his pocket. It was a text message from an unknown, untraceable number that made his blood freeze instantly:
