Chapter 5 - The Masterstroke

Daniel didn't flinch. In fact, a slow, calm smile spread across his lips—a smile that sent a shiver straight down Elena’s spine.

"Yesterday afternoon?" Daniel repeated, raising an eyebrow. "That’s fascinating, Elena. Because yesterday morning, before you even stepped foot out of this house, I received a certified call from my corporate legal team."

He walked over to his desk, picked up a thick manila folder, and tossed it onto the coffee table right beside her black ledger.

"You see, Elena, a clever man doesn't just trust his wife blindly when things start not adding up," Daniel continued, his voice echoing in the silent room. "Three weeks ago, when Rosa first quietly pointed out that some of Lily’s sentimental items were missing, I didn't yell. I hired a private forensic accountant."

Elena stared at the folder, paralyzed.

"We discovered your little offshore accounts," Daniel said casually. "We discovered the forged signatures on the preliminary asset allocation documents. And more importantly... we discovered that the primary trust you thought you were manipulating? It was dissolved and moved into an irrevocable trust for Lily six months ago, the day after you threw away her mother's photo albums."

Elena staggered backward, colliding with the edge of the sofa. "No... that's impossible. I saw the papers!"

"You saw the drafts I left on my desk for you to find," Daniel corrected, his eyes flashing with triumph. "I wanted to see how far your greed would take you. I wanted you to hang yourself with your own rope. And congratulations, Elena. You tied the knot perfectly."

At that exact moment, the heavy oak front door swung open. Two uniformed police officers stepped into the foyer, flanked by a man carrying a heavy leather briefcase.

"Elena Vance," the lead officer said smoothly, pulling out a pair of metallic cuffs. "You are being placed under arrest for wire fraud, corporate embezzlement, and attempted financial exploitation."
