Chapter 6 - A New Dawn

The front door clicked shut, sealing away the chaos, the lies, and the shadows that had choked the life out of the house for over a year. The silence that followed wasn't heavy or oppressive anymore; it was light, clean, and full of breathable air.

Rosa was standing nearby, holding a warm mug of cocoa, smiling down at the little girl.

Rosa wiped a happy tear from her eye, shaking her head. "I was never going to leave Lily, sir. Not for all the gold in the world."
Lily dropped her mug onto the small table, slid off the step, and threw her arms around both of them at once, burying her face against her father’s chest. The house felt warm again. The sun spilled unhindered across the hardwood floors, and for the first time in years, the little girl knew with absolute certainty that she was safe, she was heard, and she was fiercely loved.
