Chapter 3 - The Ultimate Betrayal Unveiled

The restaurant dining room was suffocatingly quiet. Every eye was now glued to Richard, whose arrogant facade had completely crumbled. He looked smaller, older, and utterly defeated.
“Ethan, son—listen to me,” Richard pleaded, holding up a trembling hand. “Families have struggles. Every marriage has secrets. We can—we can fix this. We can talk about this at home.”
“Don’t call me son,” Ethan snapped, his voice sharp as a razor blade. “You lost that right the moment you stood up here and tried to humiliate the only mother I have ever known. But we aren't done yet, Richard. Not by a long shot.”
Ethan reached back into the folder and pulled out a thick stack of legal papers stamped with the seal of the Illinois Superior Court.
“What is that?” Richard whispered, staring at the blue cover with sheer terror in his eyes.
“That,” Ethan said with a grim smile, “is a comprehensive forensic accounting audit of Caldwell Enterprises and all associated shell companies over the last fifteen years.”
Richard’s face turned the color of ash. He lunged forward across the table, trying to grab the papers, but Ethan easily swept the stack out of his reach.
“You can’t have that!” Richard shouted, losing all composure. “That’s private corporate property! That’s illegal!”
“It’s completely legal, Richard,” a new, deep voice echoed from the doorway of the private dining room.
All heads turned. A tall, sharp-looking man in an expensive tailored suit walked into the room, holding a leather briefcase. It was Arthur Vance, senior partner at Vance & Sterling Law Firm—and one of the most ruthless corporate litigators in Chicago.
Richard’s jaw dropped. “Arthur? What the hell are you doing here?”
Arthur offered a cold, professional smile as he stepped up beside Ethan and laid a hand gently on the young man’s shoulder.
“I’m here representing Ethan Caldwell, Richard,” Arthur said smoothly. “As his legal counsel, I had my team look into the financial structures of Caldwell Enterprises. And we found something fascinating.”

Arthur looked around the room, making eye contact with Richard’s business partners.
“For the past ten years,” Arthur announced clearly, “Richard Caldwell has systematically funneled corporate profits, asset holdings, and emergency reserve funds into offshore accounts registered under fictitious names—all designed to hide assets from a pending divorce settlement... and to starve his legitimate family of financial support while funding his lavish lifestyle with his mistress.”
