Chapter 8 - The Epilogue – A Toast to the Future

Five years later, the Chicago skyline glittered under a brilliant canopy of summer stars.
On the rooftop terrace of the highest skyscraper in the financial district—the headquarters of Margaret Holdings—a grand celebration was underway. Business leaders, tech pioneers, and close family members mingled under strings of warm fairy lights, celebrating the five-year anniversary of the company's triumphant rise.
I stood at the center of the terrace, wearing a stunning emerald-green dress that Ethan had picked out for me, feeling happier and more radiant than I had ever felt in my entire life.
Ethan stepped up to the microphone at the front of the stage, tapping his glass lightly. The crowd quieted instantly, turning their attention to the brilliant young CEO.
“Good evening, everyone,” Ethan began, his voice carrying clearly across the terrace. “Five years ago, someone stood at a dinner table and tried to claim credit for a life he never built, using a title he never earned.”
A murmur of knowing laughter rippled through the crowd.
“Tonight,” Ethan continued, his eyes finding me in the front row, “we aren't celebrating a legacy built on deceit or stolen labor. We are celebrating a legacy built on resilience, sacrifice, and unconditional love.”
Ethan raised his glass high into the air.
“To the woman who gave me my life, my values, and my future—to my mother, Margaret Caldwell. Cheers.”

“Cheers!” the crowd roared in unison, hundreds of crystal glasses clinking together in a symphony of triumph.
I smiled, raising my own glass toward my son, knowing that no matter what storms life might bring, our foundation was unbreakable, and our future was entirely our own.
