Chapter 9 - The Final ReckoningTwenty minutes later, the grand ballroom of Caldwell Ridge looked like a crime scene straight out of a geopolitical thriller.

State police troopers in tactical riot gear stood at every exit. Federal agents swarmed the room, cataloging evidence, securing digital devices, and cuffing corrupt caterers, security contractors, and corporate associates.
Harrison Sterling sat slumped in a gilt-edged chair near the head table, two state troopers standing over him with stern expressions. His empire was crumbling into dust before his eyes.
Brooke stood a few feet away, her expensive designer wedding gown stained with soot and dirt, her hair disheveled. As Ethan walked slowly down the grand staircase and stepped back into the ballroom, the entire room went dead silent.
Every eye locked onto the groom.
Ethan looked immaculate, his tuxedo jacket slightly creased, his expression utterly emotionless as he walked straight toward his new bride.
Brooke looked up, her eyes swimming with a desperate, pathetic mix of fear and old manipulation.
“Ethan…” she whispered, taking a trembling step forward. “Please… you have to understand. My father forced me into it. He threatened to cut me off, to ruin everything… I never wanted to actually hurt you! I loved you, Ethan!”
Ethan stopped just inches away from her. He looked down at the glittering diamond wedding ring on her finger—a ring he had spent three months designing himself.
“You tried to poison me with cyanide, Brooke,” Ethan said, his voice terrifyingly quiet, carrying clearly across the silent hall. “You signed away my company to a criminal syndicate. And you stood right there at the altar and lied to my face.”
“Ethan, please—” Brooke broke down, sobbing openly now, falling to her knees on the marble floor and clutching at the hem of his trousers. “We can fix this! We can leave the country! We have millions hidden away—!”
Ethan gently, but firmly, detached her hands from his pants and stepped back.
He turned his gaze toward the state police captain standing near the exit.
“Captain,” Ethan said smoothly. “Take them all into custody. Charge Harrison Sterling and Brooke Sterling with conspiracy to commit murder, corporate espionage, and domestic terrorism.”
“No! NO, ETHAN, YOU CAN’T DO THIS!” Brooke screamed as two female troopers moved in, grabbing her arms and hauling her to her feet as she thrashed and wailed.

Harrison didn't even fight back as cuffs were slapped onto his wrists. He simply stared blankly at the floor, a broken man destroyed by his own greed.
As the police escorted them out through the heavy glass doors under the flashing red lights of the cruisers, the ballroom descended into a profound, echoing quiet.
