Chapter 13 - The Grand Conservatory

Back in San Pedro Garza García, the morning sun poured through the massive glass panels of the Mendoza estate’s conservatory. Valeria stood before an easel, sketching architectural layouts for a network of tuition-free coding schools for underprivileged children across Nuevo León.

Sebastián walked in, sliding a sealed black folder across the polished mahogany table.

“The federal prosecutor’s office just finalized the indictment timeline,” Sebastián said, pouring himself a cup of black coffee. “Adrián’s trial is set for next month. His defense attorneys have officially withdrawn; they haven't been paid in four months, and no sane lawyer in the country will touch his case.”

Valeria didn't stop sketching. She shaded the corner of a courtyard design with meticulous care. “Let him stand trial without counsel. The evidence speaks for itself. Every contract, every forged signature, every fraudulent loan guarantee is documented.”

“And Paola?” Sebastián asked, watching his sister closely.

“She’s cooperating with federal investigators to shave two years off her sentence,” Valeria replied calmly. “She gave them the passwords to Adrián’s personal email servers. She’s learning the hard way that loyalty bought with lies has no currency when the bill comes due.”
