Chapter 6 - The New Order

Three months later, the corporate landscape of Nuevo León had fully recalibrated.

The assets of the defunct Grupo Salgado were carved up and absorbed quietly by the Mendoza conglomerate, their branding erased within forty-eight hours as if the company had never been anything more than a bad dream. In its place, the family launched a new foundation dedicated to supporting female entrepreneurs and protecting family trusts from predatory exploitation—a pet project personally overseen by Valeria Mendoza Garza.

The press tried for weeks to secure an interview with her. Reporters staked out the Mendoza estate, hoping to catch a glimpse of the mysterious woman who had single-handedly destroyed a tech empire with a single phone call.

Not a single reporter got past the gates.

Inside the estate’s sunlit conservatory, Valeria sat at a heavy mahogany desk that had belonged to her grandfather. Piles of financial reports, legal charters, and investment proposals surrounded her, but her attention was entirely focused on a piece of bright blue construction paper resting directly in front of her.

On it, glued with uneven drops of Elmer’s glue and covered in sparkling silver stars, was a brand-new medal.

“To the strongest mom in the world.”

Camila skipped into the room, holding a paintbrush dripping with pink watercolor. “Mommy! Look! I painted a unicorn on the back of your medal!”

Valeria looked up, her face softening into a radiant, unguarded smile that Adrián had never truly deserved to see. She picked up the handmade medal, pinned it carefully to the lapel of her blazer, and pulled her daughter into her lap.

“It’s the most beautiful medal I’ve ever seen, sweetheart,” Valeria whispered, kissing the top of Camila’s head. “Better than any gold or diamonds in the world.”

Sebastián walked into the conservatory, holding a tablet with the morning’s market openings. He stopped, looked at the glitter on his sister’s lapel, and chuckled softly.

“The restructuring of the old Salgado assets is complete,” Sebastián reported, leaning against the doorway. “Not a single trace of him remains on the registry. His lawyers tried to file an appeal this morning. It was dismissed before it hit the judge’s desk.”

Valeria didn't even look at the tablet. She simply adjusted the blue ribbon on her chest.

“Let him appeal to the walls,” she said calmly. “We have work to do.”
