Chapter 16 - The Final SignatureThe clock on the boardroom wall ticked toward 11:59 AM.

Celeste Cross sat motionless in her chair, staring at the multi-page surrender agreement spread out before her like a death warrant. The corporate attorneys had already fled the room, leaving her completely isolated in the massive glass-walled fortress she had spent decades defending.

Arthur Pendelton cleared his throat nervously. "Celeste... you should sign. If the federal DA gets hold of Jonathan’s journal and the Cayman wire receipts, there won't just be a corporate forfeiture. There will be a criminal trial."

Slowly, with fingers that trembled slightly despite her fierce willpower, Celeste picked up a heavy Montblanc fountain pen. She signed her name at the bottom of the document—Celeste Cross—the signature sharp, elegant, and final.

She dropped the pen, stood up without looking at anyone, and walked toward the private elevator without a single backward glance. The iron queen had fallen.

Nathaniel picked up the signed document, checking the notary seal. He didn't feel triumphant. He felt hollow, as if a heavy chain he had dragged behind him since childhood had finally snapped, leaving him standing in an empty room.

Arthur packed his briefcase and scurried out, leaving Nathaniel alone in the quiet boardroom.

He pulled out his phone, dialed a number in Westport, and waited through two rings.

"Nathaniel?" Elena’s voice came through the speaker, breathless and warm.

"It's over, El," he said softly, looking out the floor-to-ceiling glass windows at the Manhattan skyline glittering beneath the afternoon sun. "The empire is ours. But more importantly... we're finally free."
