Chapter 10 - ASHES AND HORIZONSThe sun broke through the heavy gray clouds, casting a golden, ethereal glow across the calm waters of the private marina.

Three days had passed since the night at the Blackwood Lighthouse. The national news channels were saturated with breaking reports: the total dismantling of a multi-billion-dollar corporate conspiracy involving fraudulent real estate syndicates, illicit genetic research facilities, and the high-profile arrest of dozens of corrupt attorneys, shell company executives, and political figures, including Mateo Silva, who was currently sitting in a maximum-security federal detention center awaiting trial.

The search and rescue teams had combed the ruins of the lighthouse. They found structural blast damage, spent ballistic casings, and signs of a fierce struggle in the upper lantern room. But they found no body. Victoria Sterling had vanished as completely as she had appeared, leaving behind only the red ledger and a single, sealed envelope addressed to Martín.

Inside the safety of the mountain safehouse, the air was warm and quiet.

Martín sat on the front porch rocking chair, looking out over the sprawling green timberland that stretched for miles toward the horizon. The property was safe. The family trust had been legally restructured under federal protective custody, and the shadow syndicate had been permanently blinded.

Footsteps crunched softly on the wooden deck.

Lucía walked out holding a small sketchbook and a box of colored pencils, wearing her favorite blue sweater. She climbed up onto Martín’s lap, resting her head against his chest just like she used to do when she was a toddler.

"Daddy?" she asked softly, looking up at him with those deep, hauntingly familiar dark eyes. "Are the bad people gone forever?"

Martín wrapped his arms tightly around her, burying his face in her dark hair, feeling the steady, beautiful rhythm of her heartbeat.

"Yes, my love," Martín whispered, a warm smile touching his lips as he looked out at the bright, unobstructed sunrise. "They're gone. And we're finally home."

On the wooden table beside them, half-hidden beneath a stack of legal documents, lay the sealed envelope Victoria had left behind. Scrawled across the front in elegant fountain pen ink were just four words:

The genesis is complete.
