Chapter 4 - THE SIRENS IN THE STREETOutside the hotel ballroom, panic had officially broken out among the elite guests.

Valeria was screaming curses at her mother, while her mother was trying to claw at the security guards who refused to let them leave the premises. The wedding cake, a towering five-tier masterpiece of white fondant and sugar orchids, stood completely abandoned under the warm glow of crystal chandeliers.

Suddenly, the heavy glass front doors of the hotel pushed open with a loud crash.

Four men in dark tactical windbreakers strode into the lobby, followed immediately by two federal marshals in full uniform. The gold badges on their chests gleamed under the lights. The hotel manager rushed forward, sweating profusely, hands raised in a defensive gesture.

"Officers, please! There’s been a misunderstanding—a private family dispute—"

"Step aside, sir," the lead federal marshal commanded, his voice cutting through the lobby like a whip. "Federal Financial Crimes Division. We have active warrants for corporate wire fraud, identity theft, and conspiracy to commit financial extortion."

Mateo Silva, who had been calmly walking toward the private exit elevator with his briefcase in hand, froze instantly. His polished demeanor cracked. For the first time since Martín had confronted him, real, unadulterated panic flashed in his eyes.

He spun around, reaching frantically into his breast pocket for his phone to cancel his server connections, but a heavy hand slammed down onto his shoulder.

"Mateo Silva," the marshal said coldly, snapping a pair of heavy steel handcuffs onto the lawyer’s wrists with a sharp clack. "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."

"This is a mistake!" Mateo shouted, struggling against the cuffs as flashes from hidden cell phone cameras began to illuminate the lobby from every angle. "I am an officer of the court! I demand to speak to my counsel! Martín! You can't do this! You'll destroy your own company!"

Martín’s voice rang out from the grand staircase above.

"My company will survive, Mateo. But you won't."

Martín descended the steps slowly, holding Lucía’s small, warm hand in his. The entire lobby turned to watch them. The wedding guests, who moments ago were whispering judgmentally, now stared in absolute shock as the full scale of the deception became clear.

Valeria threw herself at Martín’s feet, grabbing the hem of his ruined tuxedo trousers.

"Martín! Please! I was forced! Mateo threatened me! He said if I didn't seduce you and help him secure the estate, he would release my family's debts and ruin us!" she sobbed, her makeup completely ruined, looking less like a blushing bride and more like a cornered animal.

Martín looked down at her with a chilling, clinical detachment. He didn't feel anger anymore. He only felt profound, bone-deep disgust.

"You didn't just agree to the plan, Valeria," Martín said quietly, his voice carrying clearly across the silent lobby. "You rehearsed your lines. You laughed with him about my dead wife. And most importantly... you tried to take my daughter away."

He stepped past her, ignoring her desperate wails, and walked straight up to Mateo, who was being forced toward the waiting police cruisers outside.

"Enjoy your new office, Mateo," Martín whispered as the lawyer was shoved past him. "The federal penitentiary has excellent natural lighting."

As the squad cars peeled away into the rainy night with their sirens wailing, the hotel lobby fell into a heavy, breathless silence. The wedding was over. The bride was gone. But as Martín turned to look back at the grand doors, he realized the nightmare wasn't quite finished yet. Because waiting in the shadows by the valet stand was a figure neither he nor David Vance had anticipated.
