Chapter 1 - The Crash That Broke the SilenceThe sound of the front door clicking shut under the remote command of Julian’s app wasn't just a mechanical click; it was a death knell. Inside the kitchen, Clara fought through a blinding wave of agony that twisted her lower back and doubled her over the island counter.

"Please... anyone..." she choked out, her voice ragged and small against the empty walls.
The dark puddle on the floor—warm, thick, and undeniable—was a terrifying sign of placental abruption. Her high-risk pregnancy had crossed from a anxious possibility into a catastrophic reality. When the 911 dispatcher answered, Clara could barely form words, her breath hitching as another contraction squeezed the life out of her.
"Ma'am, stay on the line. Paramedics and police are dispatched to your location," the operator’s voice crackled through the speaker, a lifeline cutting through the haze of pain. "We show the front door is electronically locked. Can you reach it?"
"No... he locked it... from his phone..." Clara sobbed, sliding down the cabinets until her knees hit the cold tile. Her vision swam, turning the bright kitchen lights into blurry halos of white and yellow. "Hurry... please..."

Outside, the neighborhood was quiet, completely unaware of the nightmare unfolding behind the smart-locked deadbolts. But inside, time slowed to a crawl measured only by the frantic beat of Clara's pulse and the faint, erratic flutter of the baby inside her womb—a tiny life fighting just as hard as she was.
Ten minutes later—though it felt like an eternity—the deafening shriek of a siren tore through the suburban street. A heavy thud shook the front porch as firefighters, armed with a hydraulic spreader, made short work of the reinforced smart lock. The heavy oak door splintered inward, crashing against the hallway wall just as Clara’s consciousness finally slipped away into the dark.
