Chapter 8 - THE HEAVEN WE BUILT

Six months later.
The sunset over Lake Michigan painted the sky in brilliant hues of gold, pink, and violet.
A gentle, cool breeze blew through the lush gardens of a magnificent private estate sitting on the cliffs of Lake Forest, miles away from the noise and dark shadows of downtown Chicago.
On the wide stone terrace overlooking the water, a plush white sofa set was arranged.
Hannah sat on the sofa, wearing a simple, elegant cream silk dress. Her hair was full and shiny, cascading down her shoulders, and her skin had regained its healthy, radiant glow. The scars on her hands were still there, but they no longer represented pain—they were badges of survival.
In her arms, she held a healthy, chubby six-month-old baby girl with dark blue eyes, who was babbling happily and grabbing at Hannah’s diamond necklace.
Beside her, sitting on a soft play mat, was a fat, laugh-filled baby boy, kicking his legs frantically while clutching a soft plush bear.
Twin A and Twin B—now named Leo and Maya—were thriving.
A pair of strong arms gently wrapped around Hannah’s shoulders from behind.
Ethan leaned down, pressing a soft, lingering kiss onto her temple, his arms holding her close against his broad chest. He wore a relaxed white linen shirt, his sleeves rolled up, looking younger, happier, and more at peace than he ever had in his entire life.
"Are they behaving?" Ethan asked softly, his deep voice filled with infinite warmth.
"Maya is trying to eat my necklace, and Leo just drooled on your new rug," Hannah laughed, a sound so bright and sweet it filled the entire garden with light.
Ethan chuckled, walking around the sofa and sitting beside her. He picked up little Leo, tossing him gently into the air, making the baby boy burst into squeals of pure delight.
"He gets his destructive side from me," Ethan smiled, bringing the baby close and kissing his chubby cheek.
Hannah looked at her husband—the man who had fought through hell, destroyed empires, and cut down his own dark past just to build this safe haven for them.
She reached out, gently caressing his jawline, her thumb trailing over his warm skin.
"Do you ever miss it?" Hannah asked softly. "The hospital? The Caldwell empire? The high society life?"
Ethan looked into her warm, brown eyes, then looked down at his two beautiful, laughing children.
"I have everything I ever wanted right here," Ethan murmured, leaning in to press his lips against hers in a slow, deep, passionate kiss that sealed five years of pain and a lifetime of devotion.
"The Caldwell empire is dead," Ethan whispered against her lips. "From now on, there is only us."

As the sun sank below the horizon, casting its golden light over the lake, the sound of laughter echoed through the garden—a quiet, triumphant testament to a love that had bled, survived, and finally conquered the world.
