Chapter 4 - The Traitor Revealed

Back in the grand hall, the air had turned arctic.
The digital timer on the cake clicked relentlessly: 00:45... 00:44... 00:43...
Alessandro stood in the center of the room, his eyes sweeping across the terrified faces of his guests. He could feel the trap closing around him. The communication blackout, the locked doors, the absence of Marcus from the security study—it all clicked into a terrifying mosaic.
"Marcus hasn't come back," said Vincent Rossi, a powerful syndicate capo from Brooklyn, stepping forward cautiously. "Boss, something is wrong. The doors won't open. The guards at the outer gates aren't responding on the radio."
"I know," Alessandro replied coldly, his hand resting calmly inside his jacket, gripping the cold steel of his customized Beretta. "We have a rat in the house."
Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the main entrance of the hall creaked open.
The crowd turned in unison.
Stepping out from the shadows of the arched hallway came David Vance, his tuxedo immaculate, a sinister smile playing on his lips. In his right hand, he held a heavy-duty master remote detonator with a blinking red LED light. Flanking him were four armed mercenaries wearing black tactical gear bearing the insignia of the Bratva—the Russian Syndicate.
Gasps echoed through the room. Politicians cowered behind pillars. Wives clutched their pearls in pure terror.
"David?" Alessandro’s voice cut through the hall like a razor blade. There was no surprise in his tone, only a lethal, bottomless fury. "You? A boy whose father ate at my table for thirty years?"
David laughed, stepping further into the light, holding the remote high so everyone could see.
"Thirty years of servitude, Alessandro!" David shouted, his voice echoing off the marble walls. "Thirty years of my family bowing down to you, taking your scraps, risking our lives while you sit on your gold-plated throne playing king of New York! You thought you were untouchable. You thought your empire was eternal."
David glanced at the cake table. The timer hit 00:18... 00:17...
"And the best part?" David sneered, his eyes gleaming with sadistic triumph. "It wasn't even my grand plan that caught you off guard. It was a three-year-old girl. If little Lily hadn't wandered down that hallway and overheard my father on the phone, you would have all blown to pieces eating birthday cake. Irony is a wonderful artist, isn't it?"
Alessandro didn't flinch. He didn't raise his voice. He simply looked at David with a pity so profound it wiped the smile right off the young traitor's face.
"You talk about scraps, David, because you have the mind of a beggar," Alessandro said softly, taking one slow, calculated step forward. "You think power is something you steal. But power is something you build. And you just burned down your only foundation."

"Ten seconds, Alessandro!" David screamed, his face twisting in rage as he slammed his thumb over the activation trigger. "Say goodbye to your legacy!"
