🔥 CHAPTER 1 — "THEY TIED THE OLD RANGER TO A TREE... BUT THE WOLVES WERE THE LEAST OF THEIR PROBLEMS!"

Thomas had spent thirty-two winters protecting the Black Ridge Forest.
Every inch of those mountains carried a memory. Every stream had a name. Every ancient pine seemed to recognize the quiet old ranger who walked the trails long before sunrise and returned home only after darkness swallowed the woods.
Most people thought Thomas was simply an aging man with worn boots and a faded green jacket.
Few knew that for decades he had rescued injured bears, raised abandoned wolf pups, stopped poachers, and survived blizzards that claimed experienced hunters.
To him, the forest wasn't property.
It was family.
That afternoon, snow drifted gently from a gray sky as Thomas inspected animal feeding stations.
Fresh deer tracks crossed the trail.
Fox prints disappeared beneath fallen branches.
Everything looked peaceful.
Until the sharp scream of chainsaws shattered the silence.
Thomas stopped walking.
His expression darkened.
"No logging permits this week..."
He quietly crouched behind thick bushes and followed the sound.
The deeper he walked, the more obvious the destruction became.
Young pine trees—only fifteen years old—lay scattered across the snow.
Fresh sap bled from their stumps like open wounds.
Then he saw them.
Five large men.
Expensive chainsaws.
An overloaded truck already packed with illegal timber.
One man smoked while another laughed, kicking branches aside.
Thomas didn't hesitate.
He stepped into the clearing.
"Shut those saws off!"
The engines slowly died.
Five pairs of eyes turned toward him.
For a brief second, nobody spoke.
Then the tallest man laughed.
"You've got guts, Grandpa."
Thomas pulled a small notebook from his pocket.
"I'm documenting every vehicle, every face, and every tree you've cut."
The laughter disappeared.
One criminal suddenly recognized him.
"Wait... that's Thomas."
"The ranger?"
"The one who got my cousin arrested three years ago."
Hatred instantly filled the man's face.
"So you're the old hero."
Thomas remained calm.
"You're destroying protected land. Police are already on their way."
It was a bluff.
His phone hadn't even dialed yet.
But one of the men rushed forward and slapped the phone into the snow.
Another crushed it beneath his boot.
The screen shattered.
Thomas reached for his emergency radio.
Too late.
A heavy fist slammed into his ribs.
He stumbled backward.
Another punch struck his face.
Blood stained the white snow.
Despite being nearly seventy years old, Thomas fought back with surprising strength.
Years of working alone in the wilderness had made him tougher than anyone expected.
He managed to knock one attacker into the snow.
Another received a hard elbow to the jaw.
For a moment...
It looked like the old ranger might actually escape.
Then someone swung a thick wooden branch.
CRACK!
The blow struck the back of Thomas's head.
The world spun.
His knees collapsed.
Everything became blurry.
When he finally opened his eyes...
Cold rope was digging deep into his wrists.
His chest was pinned tightly against the trunk of a massive pine.
The men wrapped another layer around his legs.
Then another around his waist.
Thomas pulled with all his strength.
Nothing moved.
The ropes only tightened.
"You'll freeze before sunrise," one man sneered.
"And if you don't..."
He looked toward the dark forest.
"...the wolves will finish the job."
The men laughed.
One of them leaned close enough for Thomas to smell alcohol on his breath.
"You know what's funny?"
"No one even knows you're here."
The truck engines roared to life.
Snow sprayed behind the tires.
Within seconds...
Silence returned.
Thomas was alone.
The temperature dropped rapidly.
Wind howled through the trees.
Snowflakes settled across his shoulders.
Hour after hour passed.
His fingers slowly lost feeling.
His breathing became heavier.
He tried rubbing the ropes against rough bark.
Nothing.
The knots refused to loosen.
Darkness completely swallowed the forest.
Then...
Somewhere far away...
A wolf howled.
Thomas closed his eyes.
He had heard that sound thousands of times.
But never like this.
Never while tied helplessly to a tree.
The second howl came closer.
Then another.
Then several more.
The forest suddenly became terrifyingly quiet.
Even the wind seemed to stop.
Slowly...
One enormous gray wolf stepped from behind the trees.
Its yellow eyes locked onto Thomas.
Another emerged.
Then another.
Within minutes...
More than a dozen wolves surrounded the clearing.
No growling.
No barking.
Only complete silence.
The largest wolf slowly walked toward the helpless ranger...
Until its nose was only inches from his face.
Thomas held his breath.
He expected sharp teeth.
Instead...
The wolf gently sniffed his jacket.
Then suddenly raised its head—
And let out a howl so powerful that the entire mountain echoed with it.
A signal...
Not for the pack.
But for someone else.
May you like
And deep within the darkness...
Heavy footsteps answered.
