CHAPTER 2 — THE SECRET ACCOUNTANT

Victor refused to surrender.

He ordered security to throw Malcolm out.

Instead...

His own security guards lowered their eyes.

One by one.

They stepped away from him.

Victor shouted.

"I PAY YOUR SALARIES!"

"No," Malcolm answered quietly.

"I do."

The room froze.

Every guard had worked for the Vale family's private protection company for years.

Victor had only leased their services.

He never bothered checking who actually owned the company.

Then Malcolm looked at Elena.

"My dear..."

"You've suffered long enough."

Doctors rushed inside.

Within seconds they connected oxygen, replaced the IV Victor had ripped out, and prepared her for emergency transport.

As paramedics wheeled Elena away, Victor sneered.

"You think you've won?"

Malcolm didn't answer.

Instead, Elena whispered...

"Open Vault Seventeen."

Every face changed.

Even Malcolm looked surprised.

"You remembered?" he asked.

"I remember everything."

Victor frowned.

"What vault?"

Malcolm slowly smiled.

"The one containing twenty years of your crimes."

Victor's knees nearly gave out.

Because only three people had ever known Vault Seventeen existed.

Malcolm.

Elena.

And the man who mysteriously disappeared...
