CHAPTER 3: The Man Behind the Betrayal

The lawyer placed the second envelope on the table.

David opened it with shaking hands.

Inside was one photograph.

His business partner.

The man who stole everything.

But he wasn't standing alone.

Beside him was David's father.

David's voice cracked. "Why would my father know him?"

The lawyer's face turned serious.

"Because your partner, Victor, wasn’t just your partner."

"He was your father’s enemy."

David felt the room spin.

The letter explained everything.

Years ago, Victor had tried to cheat David’s father out of the land. When he failed, he waited patiently for revenge.

He befriended David.

Helped him build the company.

Earned his trust.

Then, when the land deal was finally about to become public, Victor destroyed David’s business on purpose—hoping David would sell the house before ever finding the hidden documents.

Emma grabbed David’s hand.

"He knew the envelope was here."

The lawyer nodded.

"And now he knows you found it."

At that exact moment, David’s phone buzzed.

Unknown number.

He answered.

Victor’s voice came through, calm and cold.

"Congratulations, David. You found your father’s little secret."

David stood up slowly.

"You stole my company."

Victor laughed.

"No. I only took what your family stole from me."

Then his tone changed.

"You have twenty-four hours to sign over the land
or I’ll make sure your wife and son disappear before sunset."

David’s blood turned to ice.

Across the room, little Ethan looked up and whispered,

"Dad
why is there a black car outside?"

David rushed to the window.

A dark SUV was parked across the street.

And someone inside was watching their house.

For the first time since losing everything, David wasn’t afraid of being poor.

He was afraid of losing the only two people he had left.

But Victor didn’t know one thing.

David’s father had left behind more than money.

May you like

He had left behind a plan for revenge.
