CHAPTER 7: The House Exploded... But the Truth Survived

The countdown flashed across every monitor.

05:00...

Victor's face filled the screens.

"You have five minutes."

"Send Emma outside..."

"...or no one leaves alive."

David pulled Emma behind him.

"She's not going anywhere."

Victor chuckled.

"Still trying to be the hero?"

"You've always been predictable."

Suddenly, the lights in the underground bunker flickered.

A violent explosion shook the entire house.

Dust rained from the ceiling.

The hidden room trembled as chunks of concrete crashed to the floor.

Ethan screamed.

"Dad!"

David wrapped his son in his arms while the lawyer struggled to stay on his feet.

Sophia stared at a security monitor.

"The first floor is gone..."

Victor had planted explosives.

Smoke poured through the ventilation shafts.

The bunker would soon become a tomb.

Then...

The old projector flickered back to life.

David's father's recorded image appeared once again.

"If you're watching this..."

"...Victor has done exactly what I expected."

The video continued automatically.

"There is only one way to stop him."

The camera zoomed toward an old map of the property.

"Beneath this bunker is another chamber."

"It contains every piece of evidence I spent thirty years collecting."

"Enough to destroy every politician, banker, judge, and businessman who helped Victor build his empire."

David's eyes widened.

"There’s another room?"

The lawyer nodded slowly.

"I never knew..."

The floor suddenly vibrated.

A section of concrete slid open, revealing a steel elevator descending into darkness.

As the family stepped inside, Ethan noticed a small red folder lying near the entrance.

"Dad..."

"You forgot this."

David picked it up.

Across the front, in bold black letters, were two words:

PROJECT PHOENIX

Inside were photographs that made everyone's blood run cold.

Victor.

The senator.

The bank executives.

And standing beside them...

David's own mother.

Emma covered her mouth.

"No..."

David stared at the picture in disbelief.

"My mother died twenty years ago."

Sophia slowly shook her head.

"No, David."

"She didn't die."

"She disappeared."

"And she wasn't their victim..."

A tear rolled down her cheek.

"She was their leader."

At that exact moment, every screen inside the elevator switched on.

A woman with silver hair appeared.

Elegant.

Calm.

Smiling.

"Hello, David."

"It's been a long time..."

David's entire body froze.

He recognized that voice instantly.

The woman smiled gently.

"Happy birthday, my son."

"I've been waiting twenty years to finally meet you again."

The elevator doors slowly opened...

May you like

And waiting in the darkness was an army of armed men.
