CHAPTER 3 — "The Ballerina the World Thought Had Died"

For nearly a full minute...
No one moved.
The dancers stood frozen where they were, staring at the elderly woman as if time itself had stopped.
Then Daniel suddenly dropped to one knee.
His voice trembled.
"...I'm so sorry."
Gasps echoed throughout the studio.
The city's strictest choreographer—the man who had never apologized to anyone—was bowing before the woman he had tried to throw out only moments earlier.
The students looked at one another in disbelief.
"What is happening?"
"Who is she?"
"I've never seen Mr. Carter apologize to anyone..."
Daniel slowly stood, his eyes still fixed on the woman.
"You really are Isabella Laurent..."
The old woman gave a gentle smile.
"I used to be."
The room exploded with whispers.
Some students hurried to search her name on their phones.
Within seconds, old black-and-white photographs appeared on their screens.
One dancer gasped loudly.
"Oh my God..."
"It's her!"
"This photo... look at her face!"
Another student compared the image to the woman standing in front of them.
The same graceful eyes.
The same elegant posture.
Even the tiny scar above her left eyebrow matched perfectly.
One by one, the laughter disappeared.
It was replaced by stunned silence.
Years ago, Isabella Laurent had been the brightest star in classical ballet.
Critics called her "The Swan Who Defied Gravity."
She performed before kings, presidents, and sold-out theaters around the world.
At only twenty-two, she had become the youngest principal ballerina in the history of the National Royal Ballet.
People traveled across continents just to watch her dance.
Then...
She vanished.
No farewell performance.
No retirement announcement.
No interviews.
Nothing.
One day she was the most famous ballerina in the country.
The next...
She simply disappeared.
For nearly six decades, no one knew why.
Some believed she had died.
Others believed she had become too ill to continue.
Wild rumors claimed she had secretly left the country.
But the truth...
Had never been told.
Daniel swallowed hard.
"My grandmother spoke about you."
"She said watching you dance changed her life."
The old woman's smile faded.
"It changed mine too."
One curious student stepped forward.
"If you were the greatest ballerina in the country..."
"...why did you disappear?"
The room fell completely silent.
For the first time since arriving...
Pain appeared in Isabella's eyes.
She looked toward the enormous studio mirrors.
The reflection staring back at her wasn't the young woman who had once dazzled thousands.
It was an eighty-year-old grandmother carrying memories no one could imagine.
She took a slow breath.
"I didn't leave ballet..."
"...ballet was taken away from me."
Confused murmurs spread across the room.
Daniel frowned.
"What do you mean?"
Instead of answering...
Isabella carefully opened her small canvas bag.
Inside were only three things.
An old pair of satin pointe shoes.
A faded newspaper clipping.
And a yellowed envelope tied with a blue ribbon.
She gently handed the newspaper to Daniel.
As he unfolded it...
The color drained from his face.
Printed across the front page was the headline:
"RISING BALLET STAR SABOTAGES LEADING BALLERINA BEFORE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP."
Underneath...
A photograph of twenty-two-year-old Isabella crying outside a theater while reporters surrounded her.
Students crowded around Daniel.
"What does it say?"
His voice became barely audible.
"It says..."
"...she intentionally injured another dancer before the International Ballet Championship."
The room erupted.
"That's impossible!"
"She wouldn't do that!"
"But it's in the newspaper!"
Daniel kept reading.
Then suddenly stopped.
His hands began shaking.
"This article..."
"...was written by my grandfather."
Every eye turned toward him.
"My grandfather..."
"...Edward Carter."
Silence crashed over the studio.
Because Edward Carter wasn't just any journalist.
He had been the country's most influential arts critic.
His words had the power to create legends...
Or destroy them forever.
Daniel slowly looked up.
Fear filled his eyes.
"You came here..."
"...because of my family."
Isabella looked at him quietly.
"No."
"I came here..."
"...because today is the anniversary of the day your grandfather destroyed my life."
May you like
The room went completely silent.
No one even dared to breathe.
