CHAPTER 1 — "The Woman Everyone Wanted to Throw Out"

The crystal chandeliers sparkled above the marble floor as customers wandered through the most luxurious jewelry boutique in Manhattan.
Diamond necklaces worth hundreds of thousands of dollars rested behind spotless glass displays.
Everyone inside looked wealthy.
Everyone...
Except one elderly woman.
She walked slowly through the front doors wearing an old gray coat, worn leather shoes, and carrying a faded handbag that looked older than some of the employees.
The conversations stopped.
Several customers exchanged amused smiles.
One whispered loudly enough for everyone to hear.
"She must be lost."
Another laughed.
"Maybe she's looking for the public restroom."
The elderly woman ignored every word.
Instead, she quietly approached the center display where the store's most valuable diamond necklace rested beneath a spotlight.
A young sales associate named Claire immediately stepped in front of her.
"I'm sorry, ma'am," Claire said with a practiced smile.
"That collection is extremely expensive."
The old woman nodded politely.
"I know."
Claire forced another smile.
"Perhaps you'd like to see something from our silver collection instead."
Several nearby shoppers chuckled.
One wealthy socialite wearing designer clothes couldn't resist joining in.
"Oh, let her dream," she laughed.
"Looking is free."
The old woman gently placed one finger against the glass.
"I'd like to see this necklace."
Claire hesitated.
"I'm afraid we only remove it for qualified buyers."
Silence.
The old woman's eyes never left the diamonds.
"How do you determine who's qualified?"
Claire folded her hands.
"We simply... know."
More laughter echoed across the showroom.
Even the security guard moved a little closer, expecting trouble.
The manager soon noticed the growing crowd and hurried over.
"Is there a problem?"
Claire answered before the old woman could speak.
"She wants to examine the Crown Aurora necklace."
The manager looked at the woman from head to toe.
His smile disappeared instantly.
"Ma'am, that necklace costs more than most homes."
"I understand."
"I don't think you do."
The manager lowered his voice.
"We have serious clients arriving shortly."
"I'll have to ask you to leave."
For a moment...
The boutique became completely silent.
The old woman slowly reached into her worn handbag.
Everyone expected her to pull out coupons...
Or perhaps an old wallet with just a few dollars inside.
Instead...
She removed a tiny silver key.
Not a car key.
Not a house key.
A beautifully engraved antique key bearing the boutique's original crest.
The manager's face instantly turned pale.
His hands began trembling.
Because only one person in the entire world still possessed that key...
May you like
And according to company history...
She had disappeared over thirty years ago.
