Chapter 7 – The Swiss Box Changed Everything

The silver key lay in Richard's trembling hand.

No one spoke.

Even Harold Bishop, now surrounded by security, wore a strange smile.

"You'll wish you'd never opened that box," he whispered.

Twenty-four hours later...

A private jet landed in Zurich.

Richard.

Eleanor.

Amelia.

Two attorneys.

And a federal investigator entered one of Switzerland's oldest private banks.

The vault manager examined the key before nodding silently.

"This box has remained untouched for thirty-one years."

Richard's heartbeat thundered inside his chest.

The steel door slowly opened.

Inside was almost nothing.

One leather journal.

A velvet pouch.

And a VHS cassette labeled only with today's date.

Eleanor frowned.

"Today's date?"

The manager smiled politely.

"Your husband instructed us to release everything exactly thirty-one years after his death."

Richard carefully opened the journal.

The first sentence made him stop breathing.

"Richard... if you're reading this, you are not my biological son."

The room froze.

Amelia looked at her brother.

"What...?"

Richard read the sentence again.

Again.

His hands began shaking uncontrollably.

"No..."

"This can't be real."

Eleanor collapsed into a nearby chair.

Tears filled her eyes.

"I begged him never to tell you."

Richard stared at her.

"You knew?"

She slowly nodded.

"I learned the truth only weeks before your father died."

The journal explained everything.

Thirty-seven years earlier...

Eleanor had given birth to a baby boy.

The child died only hours later due to a rare heart condition.

The loss destroyed both parents.

Unable to watch his wife fall apart, Richard Sterling Sr. made a desperate decision.

That same night...

A newborn baby had been abandoned outside a church during a snowstorm.

No name.

No family.

No records.

Richard Sterling Sr. secretly adopted the infant.

That baby...

Was Richard.

The billionaire CEO felt the world collapsing beneath him.

"If I'm not a Sterling..."

"...then who am I?"

Eleanor gently held his face.

"You are the son I chose every single day."

Before anyone could speak again...

The bank manager pointed toward the velvet pouch.

"There is one more item."

Inside was an old silver baby bracelet.

Engraved on the back were five tiny words.

Property of Saint Gabriel Hospital.

Amelia's eyes widened.

"I've seen that name before."

The federal investigator immediately searched the hospital archives.

Five minutes later...

His face turned white.

"There was no abandoned baby."

Richard looked up.

"What?"

The investigator swallowed.

May you like

"There were..."

Two babies missing that night.
