CHAPTER 7 â The Gunshot That Changed Everything

The prison fell silent.
Warden Hale aimed the gun directly at Emily's chest.
His finger tightened on the trigger.
"You should've stayed undercover," he said with a cold smile.
Emily didn't move.
Neither did Scarlett.
For one long second...
No one breathed.
BANG!
The gun echoed through the laundry room.
Emily staggered backward.
Blood splattered across the concrete floor.
Scarlett screamed.
"EMILY!"
The inmates outside froze.
The feared prison queen dropped to her knees beside the woman she once wanted dead.
Emily looked down.
The bullet hadn't hit her heart.
A thin Kevlar vest hidden beneath her prison uniform had stopped most of the impact.
She was hurt...
But alive.
Hale fired again.
This time, Scarlett lunged forward.
She tackled the warden into a rusted washing machine.
The gun slid across the floor.
The two fought with everything they had.
Years of hatred...
Years of regret...
Years of lies...
Exploded in one brutal struggle.
Emily forced herself back to her feet despite the pain.
She reached the gun first.
"Federal agents!"
She shouted into the emergency radio clipped to Hale's belt.
"Operation Iron Gate is compromised. Move in NOW!"
Within seconds...
Sirens roared outside the prison walls.
Black helicopters circled overhead.
Floodlights pierced the darkness.
The largest law enforcement raid in Blackridge history had begun.
But Hale wasn't finished.
He smiled.
"You think you've won?"
He pressed a hidden switch beneath his watch.
Somewhere deep inside the prison...
A deafening explosion shook the entire building.
The power failed.
Steel doors slammed shut automatically.
May you like
Hundreds of inmates were trapped inside.
And flames began spreading through Cell Block C.
