CHAPTER 3 — The Hunters Became the Hunted

Victor Hale was still alive.
Barely.
He lay at the bottom of the ravine, one leg twisted beneath him, snow filling his mouth as he gasped for breath.
Above him, his rich friends shouted his name.
But none of them climbed down.
Not one.
Samuel heard Victor’s cries from the clearing and lowered his head. Even after everything, he whispered,
“Don’t let him die.”
The Alpha Wolf turned toward him.
For a moment, the animal’s golden eyes seemed almost human.
Then the Alpha gave one sharp howl.
The pack split apart.
Some wolves remained around the terrified hunters, keeping them trapped on the platform. Others moved toward the ravine—not to kill Victor…
But to guard him from freezing to death.
The hunters didn’t understand.
They thought the wolves were monsters.
But tonight, the monsters were wearing designer coats and carrying rifles.
Samuel struggled against the ropes until one young hunter, pale and shaking, finally climbed down from the platform.
“I didn’t know they were really going to do this,” he cried. “I swear!”
Samuel looked at him coldly.
“You watched.”
The young man froze.
Those two words hurt more than any accusation.
With trembling hands, he cut Samuel free.
The second the ropes fell, the Alpha stepped between Samuel and the hunters, as if warning them not to move.
Then, from deep in the forest, another sound appeared.
Sirens.
Red and blue lights flashed through the trees.
Someone had called the police.
But no one knew who.
Until Samuel saw the small camera hidden in the old hunting cabin window.
His granddaughter, Emily, had installed it weeks ago after Victor’s men started threatening him.
Everything had been recorded.
Every threat.
Every laugh.
May you like
Every second of the human sacrifice.
And now the whole world was about to see it.
