CHAPTER 8 — The Alpha Took the Bullet... But the Real Guardian Was Never the Wolf

The second shot never reached Margaret.
A dark figure burst from behind the rocks and tackled her to the ground just as the bullet ripped through the air.
Police officers flooded the forest from every direction.
"Federal agents! Drop your weapons!"
The sniper tried to escape.
He made it less than fifty yards before being surrounded.
When officers pulled off his winter mask...
Emily gasped.
It wasn't a mercenary.
It was Victor Hale's personal attorney.
The same man who had defended Victor in court for over twenty years.
Hidden inside his backpack were passports, stacks of cash, a satellite phone, and one handwritten order:
"Silence Margaret Carter. Recover the missing ledger. Eliminate all witnesses."
Signed with only two initials:
R.H.
Richard Hale.
Meanwhile, Samuel knelt beside the Alpha.
Blood stained the snow beneath its shoulder.
Emily cried as she pressed her scarf against the wound.
"Please... don't die..."
The Alpha looked at Samuel with the same calm eyes it had as a rescued pup.
Then something incredible happened.
More wolves emerged from the trees.
Not aggressively.
Quietly.
One by one, they surrounded the injured Alpha as if standing guard over their leader.
The oldest wolf in the pack stepped forward carrying a weathered leather pouch in its mouth.
It dropped the pouch at Samuel's feet.
Inside was a rusted military dog tag, an old compass, and a faded letter wrapped in oilcloth.
The letter was addressed to Samuel.
But it had been written twenty years earlier.
With trembling hands, he unfolded it.
The first line made his heart stop.
"If you're reading this, Richard Hale has finally come out of hiding... and everything you believed about your own family is a lie."
Samuel looked up in shock.
Margaret slowly nodded.
"There is one truth I never told you."
"What truth?"
Tears rolled down her face as she whispered the words that shattered Samuel's world forever.
"Richard Hale isn't just your enemy..."
She paused, unable to hold back her tears.
"...He's your older brother."
The forest fell silent.
Even the wolves stopped moving.
Because the battle over the cabin had never really been about land...
May you like
It had always been about a family secret buried for generations.
To Be Continued...
