🔥 CHAPTER 3 — THE DRONE FOOTAGE REVEALED A SECRET NO ONE COULD EXPLAIN 😱
Three days after I returned home, I thought the nightmare was finally over.
Then my phone rang.
It was the director of the local wildlife reserve.
His voice sounded unusually serious.
"Miss... we need you to come in immediately. There's something you have to see."
An hour later, I sat inside a small monitoring room where several wildlife biologists stared silently at a large screen.
One of them pressed Play.
The drone footage from that day appeared.
At first, everything looked exactly as I remembered.
The cub hanging over the cliff.
Me pulling it to safety.
The lioness stepping out of the forest.
Then the camera angle changed.
My heart skipped a beat.
The lioness had appeared nearly five minutes earlier than I thought.
She had been hiding behind the bushes the entire time.
She watched every second while I struggled to save her cub.
Several times she even started moving toward me...
Then stopped.
One of the researchers paused the video.
"Look closely."
He zoomed in.
The lioness wasn't preparing to attack.
Her body language was completely different.
Her ears weren't pinned back.
Her tail wasn't whipping with aggression.
She was anxious.
Nervous.
Almost... afraid.
"Afraid of what?" I whispered.
Nobody answered.
The scientist skipped ahead another minute.
Suddenly, movement appeared high on the ridge above us.
Not one...
Not two...
But six large hyenas silently circling the cliff.
They had been waiting.
Watching.
If I had failed to rescue the cub, they would have attacked the moment it fell.
The lioness wasn't hunting me.
She had been trapped.
If she rushed toward the cliff too quickly, the frightened cub could have lost its grip and fallen.
If she left her hiding place too soon, the hyenas would have surrounded them.
She had made an impossible decision.
Trust a human...
Or lose her baby forever.
The room fell silent.
One elderly ranger slowly removed his glasses.
"In thirty-two years of studying lions," he said quietly, "I've never seen a mother gamble everything on trusting a stranger."
Before anyone could speak again, another researcher froze the screen.
"There."
Hidden deep inside the forest...
Another pair of glowing eyes stared directly toward the cliff.
