I stood in the newly renovated foyer of Greystone Manor, watching the morning light pour through the tall stained-glass windows.

A soft pair of small arms wrapped around my leg.

I looked down. Little Rosie—now wearing a bright yellow dress and a broad, gap-toothed smile—was holding up a brand-new, fluffy white stuffed rabbit.

“Mr. Damian,” she chirped happily, “can we bake cookies today like Mommy used to?”

A genuine smile touched my lips for the first time in months. I knelt down, picking her up effortlessly, and walked her toward the sunlit kitchen where the smell of freshly brewed coffee filled the air.

The ghosts of Greystone Manor were finally laid to rest. And for the first time in my life, everything was exactly where it belonged.
