Chapter 3 - The Secret InheritanceThe room went dead silent. The only sound was the faint hum of the refrigerator down the hall.

My mother stared down at the documents resting on the coffee table. The moment her eyes landed on the embossed gold seal of the estate attorney’s letterhead, all the color drained completely from her face. She looked like she had just seen a ghost.
“Where... where did you get those?” she choked out, her voice losing its aggressive edge, replaced by pure, unadulterated terror.
“Aunt Colleen gave them to me,” I replied, stepping closer to my father’s chair and resting a gentle hand on his shoulder. He looked up at me, confused, his frail hand reaching up to touch mine. “She told me everything, Mom. About the trust. About the properties. About the fact that you spent the last twenty years making me your slave while legally designating me as the sole controller of every single asset this family owns.”
Chelsea hurried down the stairs, her sleepy demeanor vanishing instantly as she sensed the shift in the room’s atmosphere. “What are you talking about? What is Lucy holding? Mom, what is going on?”
“Shut up, Chelsea,” my mother snapped, her voice cracking. She lunged forward, trying to grab the papers off the table, but I was faster. I scooped them up and held them safely against my chest.
“Ah-ah,” I warned, my eyes narrowing. “You don't touch these. In fact, under the exact legal terms of this trust—which my father signed back in 2006 when he was fully of sound mind—I have full fiduciary power over every bank account, vehicle, and real estate deed tied to this household.”
My mother let out a sharp, breathless laugh, though her hands were shaking violently. “That’s impossible! Your father was out of his mind back then! That trust is invalid! I’m his wife! Everything belongs to me and Chelsea!”
“Really?” I pulled out a single sheet of paper and held it up for her to read. “Because right here, signed by both my father and two independent witnesses, it states that if at any point you or Chelsea commit financial fraud, elder neglect, or emotional abuse against the primary dependents of this estate—which includes both my father and my son—the estate immediately transfers into my absolute control without your consent.”
I paused, letting the heavy truth settle over them like a shroud.
“You spent years laughing at Dany. You spent years treating me like unpaid labor. And all the while, you handed me the keys to your entire kingdom.”

Chelsea’s face twisted in rage. She stepped forward, pointing a finger directly in my face. “You arrogant little witch! You think you can waltz in here and take everything? Carter’s private school tuition is paid out of this account! My car is paid for by Dad! You’re nothing without us!”
“No, Chelsea,” I said softly, looking her dead in the eye. “For thirty years, you were nothing without me.”
